I think I need to retire and learn how to do interiors like that.:D Give rodders on the Right Coast some place to go where they don't get shot at and make a little extra beer money in the process.

In the mid/late 70's I lived in Borrego Springs, CA and used to get work done in Mexicali all the time. A friend sent me to a shop that he'd used before.

Off topic cars but on the Dodge Dart I had a good sized dent fixed, new paint (including jambs interior door window sills & dash), new upholstery, and a new convertible top for $650.

The 70 Chevelle had new pearl paint (color change), new top and front seat bottom replaced for $500.

I guess inflation has hit south of the border too........

Do you know if they do diamond pleating as well? The interior looks great, but it's the wrong era for my car.

Love it. I'd like to take a set of door panels and sun visors down and get them re-done.

    Awesome.

When I lived in the Rio Grande Valley (south Texas), we used to get all of our interior work done in either Reynosa or Progresso. Great work and phenomenal prices.

Though with some of the "drug/violence issues" they've had lately would make me want to wait til I go back across for a while, I'll still go again to get work done there.

Good people, good work and great prices.

Now that I think of it, I've never had auto upholstery done in the U.S...lol

I think it looks great. I bet if you give them a couple hundred extra they would line up the pleats no problemo! ;)

I think I will be going to get mine done.

    Looks great Hombre!

I haven't been to TJ in many moons, but something like this would be well worth the trip. I'll have to give you a buzz the next time I'm down in San Diego and check out your ride and get the directions.

A friend from Santa Barbara went to TJ for upholstery in his '56 Chebby back in '63. $100.00 included the interior, under-hood and trunk.

When he got back things smelled on a hot day. Turned out the rolls
were filled with hay & horse****. Ouch!

Some of the biggest/best so-called "traditional" rodders took/take their cars to TJ to have the interior done.

that really looks like a good job for a good price..I remember some of the urban myths about that, them using anything at hand for padding, cow pattys, newspapers etc. but the one about furnishing them your own quality thread to use seemed to make sense to me...

Not totally hearsay... My Uncle was in the Navy and took his car down to get the upholstery done. He had to drop it off and leave it. He came back later got the car and then he was shipped out. When he got back the seams were splitting and manure was spilling out.

A few years later my Dad wanted to have his Skyliner done so he went but he said the trick was to stay around the shop and check in often or hang around at the shop, then it would be done right.
This is from my Dad and his buddies and his brother who were there.

what i dont understand about stuff like these tales is why would you seriously go to the trouble of actually obtaining cow ****,from who knows where, keeping it in a shop, until some gringos roll in ,then taking the time and effort to stuff the seats with manure ,which in itself would be a horrendous task for the upholsterer, causing a great mess and horrible smell, you would literally be getting **** every where, causing your shop to reak like crazy....see it does not make any sense to the do this at all,not to mention the possibility of some mad as hell gringo coming back and beating the living{cow} **** out of you and your shop buddies. To me its a legend, its not practical, sane and profitable.....why would you use ****? why not something else? makes no sense...lets see some photos of the above mentioned **** in seats,i am sure someone some where took photos of that event.

Why do these "get a good job and a kick *** deal on your interoir" threads always turn into:
    "Don't drink the water"
"You are going to get kidnapped"
"They will fill your car with weed and then follow you home and steal it"
"Did you see a donkey show"

    ???

Maybe it's because I grew up in San Diego... but I just don't get it.

Paul, you gotta get one of those waterslides from Muttley - they kick ***.

joe,i think you nailed it in your post above.I just want to post that interiors done in TJ are really, really well done, worth the money and still available to people here in the states. When you think about it its tradition to some to get the interior done in TJ,its what alot of people did back in the day.The shops that do great work are alive and well and not one wiff of cow ****,anywhere, but i do think i smell ******** on the hamb sometimes.

Nice looking work for a nice sweet looking Ride.. Well excecuted I may add. I used to live in Tijuas at one point of my life and seen alot of body shops, upholstery shops and repair shops . Bottom line is that wheather you are in the States or Mexico, you are to get taken for your money no matter where you live or take it to. I believe that you would consider taking your car on a referral bases rather than just taking it to a hole in the wall shop not knowing what kind of **** your going to get for your hard earned money? I myself would rather take it to a referred shop than taking to a shop that I know nothing about. The way I see the work on the ride and he's had real good luck with other cars done by this shop, I would say this is a good referral to take MY personal upholstery biz to this shop. Especially for the price!!
You think that you are going to get a "SHOW QUALITY" upholstery for $650 in 12hrs? I think we all know that answer!!!!

My input is not to bash anyone here on this post, it's just common sence to view your opptions and sellections before you go out to let someone work on your pride and joy (ride) and let go of that $$$...
