I've always wanted a rotisserie. The downside to a tool like this is that they're pricey and my loving wife is an accountant; both for us and for a living. So she's the consummate bargain hunter. I've found the best way to get her to 'approve' me buying anything is to be able to show a savings and the bigger the better.

While searching the net for a rotisserie, I stumbled across a rotisserie kit from US Car Tool in Durham, NC. These guys are a very O/T Mopar resto shop, but they know rotisseries. For $375, plus shipping, they'll send all the small parts to assemble, (read cut, drill and weld) a real-world rotisserie. Everything is included, (the rotating heads even have bearing inside) except the tube stock that is bought locally which a big savings on shipping, (hey, there's a selling point for the wife!). The tube stock will run about $250. So, for about $650 there's my rotisserie. And at that price, compared to the advertised prices that I've seen for the assembled rotisseries, I easily convinced the wife on this one. She was actually proud of me for searching and finding a deal.

Late last week, I ordered one and it showed up today. Once I start the actual assembly of this, I'll post it's progress. I'm sure it'll help anyone who is on the fence about buying/building/using one.

The first time that you use it , you'll be kicking yourself for not getting one sooner. They're a great tool .

  4. Your gonna love it. I would NEVER do another car without one!

Here's a little tease, just so you can think about how much easier you just made your next build. This is a Ford F1. All four cab corners and full floor.

I so badly wanted one when I was working on my coupe, but couldn't justify it to me or my wife as that was my first car to rebuild from the ground up. Now, I have an O/T+2 years that I can't imagine trying to do without a rotisserie.

    not too hard to justify
1-less doctor bills due to bad back
2-more production- much faster to fix floors and even work on the dash(tip car 90 degrees side up and stand in door opening ) now the dash is right in front of you and you don't have to contort yourself to work
3-if you only need it for 1 project advertise it and buy it with a buddy bought mine for $800 or so new at swap meet now i rent ir out for $35 a month so it won't take long to pay for it self

I found some plans on line then modified them to work with what was in the steel rack. basically 2 big engine stands with the adjustable arms. all the steel was free from demo jobs from my iron worker buddies. they save stuff they think I could use. my cost was $ 50 for new castors and bolts. we also built a roll around gantry crane. My grand son wanted to know why the swing set was in the shop and had that thing (chain hoist) instead of the seats. the move around hoist makes it a lot easier to rig up the rotator.

  8. I think your gonna miss laying on that ice cold concrete and the frost bite on your back, the bitter chill and numbness from head to toe, so I'l be over and get that rotisserie as soon as you get it assembled, what's the address again...............

I have used a rotisserie for over 20 years, and wouldn't be without one. Has helped me do 66 Mustang, 68 Z28, a couple of buddies cars and my 31 Coupe. They break down to where you can store them. As for the justification...................I think that was covered earlier.
As for the money, brand new they are expensive, but used you can pick them up for 1/2 the original price because some people buy them for a project and then have no room to store them...............kind of like building a frame jig.

    IMHO
