As usual this car found me. Thats been the case with the last couple of cars I have built, so I'll just run with it. A friend of mine got a package deal on two cars, a 32 Victoria project with lots of new parts including a completely finished ch***is done with an old dropped axle and reversed eye springs front and rear, and 40 brakes on all four corners, Unsplit wishbones and everything else n.o.s. including the Original knee shocks and kingpins ect. The Vicky is just a bare body with all the sheetmetal and garnish moldings ect, enough to put togeather a nice little car. The other car, the one I posses now is a completly stock unmolested 32 tudor sedan. This car is unreal. IT looks to have most of the original paint, interior, gl***, drivetrain, wheels, even the top insert is near perfect. The car has absolutly no rust and only some minor issues with some cracks and bangs on the 73 year old fenders!! I figure the car has been off the road since the late 50's. Luckly for me the guy I got the sedan from is going to turn the vicky into a high zoot "Street Rod" and he had no use for the old ch***is under the vicky. He told me had had the original Frame it self sold to a friend but I was welcome to all the suspention. It was just ment to be My plan is to use the complete suspension from the vicky as I removed it along with every nut and bolt. ANd put it into the sedan along with a 1957 283 Chevy removed from a restored covertible the guy is "Updating" and use a 39 Ford Toploader with Zypher gears I have had just waiting for the right car. I will be leaving the body untouched as well as the interior and top. As for wheels I'll be using 16 or 17 inch wires or a combination thereof. The one ch***is modification Will be cutting the front x member to lower it about 2 additional inches. Model a x members were often used in the day or the center cut and raised up, which I choose to do. I'll be taking pics of the transformation as I go and will keep you all posted as car becomes an old hotrod with nothing newer than the 1957 engine I will be using and of course the new repo Firestones, 450/475 fronts and 700's in the rear. Here is the frirst pics of this car that probably hasn't seen the light of day in over 50 years. Also included is the suspension as I removed it from the "Parts" car
Man, she's a hunny! That'll make a great project. I like the tasteful plans you have. ...why can't these cars ever find ME!
Rudy, That's a fantastic score, and I really like your build plans. Is it just an optical illusion or does the axle in the picture have a slight drop. It just doesn't look like a stock '32, maybe the camera angle. That would make it an even more *****in ch***is if it had an old dropped axle under it. Please keep us posted with pictures. Frank
Rudy, congratulations on the great score. I'm really digging what ya got planned for this ride. .........and who sez they ain't still out there just waiting for us! Joel
Way cool! Its got to be nice to start out with such a cherry body, no major rust repair, or hunting down any of those fun to find parts. have fun JEFF
I like your plan a lot. Keep it simple and enjoy the car. That was my original plan with my 34 Ford pu,except I was (and still am) using a 312 Ford Y-Block. I was going to use a 39 Ford ****** and a Columbia 2-speed rear, but changed my mind and am using a 3-speed +od ****** out of a mid-80's Ford pu and a 3:25 rear out of a 64 Fairlane instead. Probably going to use the 54 Olds gauge cluster and speedo I have,as well as the 54 Olds AM-FM radio .No ac,no ps,no cruise control, nothing inside but the dash cluster, the radio, and a heater. I'm going to restore the cab and bed to stock, and run black steel wheels with narrow big and little whitewall radials and 49 Merc hubcaps.
That is actually a point I have been trying to make with some yonger guys lately. When I was first started getting into hotrods and cars in general, We(most people) would get an old car, whatever it was, and proceed to "FIx it up" or modify it in some way. Weather it was a 57 chevy or some old relic. "Building" a car out of a almost nothing was practicly unhead of. Not to say it wasen't done by some, but in general, especially young dudes just getting into cars, it just wasn't very common. I see alot of young guys today with a desire to "Build" a car from nothing, that have never even "Fixed up" a car. I feel I gained Lots of experiance working on old cars that were actually complete cars to begin with before thinking I would build a car out of nothing. Not that I haven't done that but it was after years of experiance working on or like I like to say"Fixing up" old cars. This car will be a throughback to the day when I would get a complete car and modifiy it. I mean absolutly no offence to anyone "building" a car. Here is the interior that I DON'T have to have done
Cool, sounds like it ought to be a fairly easy build too, so you will be done with it by the end of the month, right? I expect to see you rolling into GG Indy in it!
Nice score. I really dig your build plan. You may want to consider replacing the windshield though. HAHA. Billy
EXCELLENT score, Rudy!!!! I know it's in good hands, and that the finished product will be nothing short of incredible! You ROCK!!!
Does this mean you're just not gonna cut on it (but fresh paint, etc. is planned), or that you'll keep the actual current "finish" on the body? Either way, I'm jealous!
Nice find, almost too nice to hot rod, of course you could always chop it and use those E&J's your saving
Rudy, you could do the same thing just with the original paint as that yellow one. BUT, those fenders are so nice, it would be a shame to NOT use them too. Tough call. Here's a pic of ContinentalJohn's tudor from GarageDays last weekend...
Wow, that thing is Beautiful!!!!! What a nice way to start a project! I need to find some "high zoot" friends who don't need any traditional things too.....
Rudy I thought you were nuts getting rid of your 40 but this will replace it quite well, Id change the Drivetrain around and leave the body the way it is but ad a dropped headlight bar.
Oh yeah this car will make a perfect replacement for the 40. Way less up keep, Believe me fellas, I would rather grind on a car than wax it Yes a dropped headlite bar is a must. Can you dig the old seal beam conversion kit that is on the car now. Actually I would l like to drop the original headlite bar, anybody know how it was done before you could just go out and buy one? Maybe I'll start a post and ask.
Good point that I only recently realized myself. I definitely need to "fix-up" a few more complete ones before I can consider piecing one together. Someday, though, I'll have that roadster!
Hey Rudy.... Nice find. About time you figured out Coupes are for chickens! I know, I know, Grocery getter... Grocery store.. THINK ABOUT IT... Thats were all the chicks that know how to cook hang out. I gave Race a few phone numbers for bumpers. Do you need any side or rear gl***? Joshua(the puker)
Hey Josh, The Puker...thats a good one(inside joke) All the gl*** is good but the windshield. What is missing for some strange reason is the rear seat bottom. Strange. IT has a model A rear bumper and no front so I'll be following up on those leeds thanks. Race is fired up to get me on the road, maybe he thinks the roadster will be at his disposal then, haha we'll see. Tell the Cinci crew "Red" says Hi, and we will see you all soon.
