In my rush to get ready for paso, i finally get all of the bugs worked out of my drivetrain and get my******* working properly. I then start up the truck and it is ticking, loud, I pulled off the valve cover and side cover and with a stethescope i found the noise to be coming loudest from the center of the rocker shaft where the oil tube comes up from the head? Has anyone dealt with this issue? I haven't pulled off the rocker shaft yet but will tonight. Another question is if anyone of you in the SF bay area would have a rockershaft****y for sale? Thanks.

first thing first, check and see if it is oiling along the top of the shaft. If it is, check the thread in balls that go on the rockers. I've had them pound the rounded end off and sharpen them up like a pencil. Also, have you checked to make sure the lifters haven't collapsed?

I saw your posting on the noisy 235... and checked out your site... I also have a bike gig... www.bossbikes.com as for the 235 a little known fact is that from about 1960 to the mid 1970's the toyota landcuisers engine is really a 235 chevy.. so if you're in need a rocker shaft****embly it's possible a landcruiser will also fit... I hope the problem is top end... maybe a loose rocker / rockershaft... anyhow drop me a line sometime on the bikes and have fun in paso....

Sounds like you need to take some play out of the rockers. Definately check for top end oiling, you can see it if you start the engine with the valve cover off, it will ooze out all down the rocker shaft, and look for metal shavings. You'll see them if it isn't getting oil to the top end.

  5. If you find out you need a new rocker****y., let me know. I've got a BRAND NEW setup ready to go. It will have full pressure out the end rockers too.

Thanks for the advice folks, I will get to it shortly when i get off work... one of the oldtimers at my work is going to follow me home and take a look and make sure it's oiling proper.

That*****er will run forever now. We took enough metal flakes out of Munson's top end to cover the whole truck with a******in' paintjob, and it is still going strong. It went for at least 75 miles with NO oil to the top end.
