As you may or may not know when Randy and I decided to quit running our HA/GR Randy sold his ch***is and I sold my flathead engine. The engine was sold to some guys from Canada who had blown up their previous flathead at Bonneville in their record holding XF/MP 1953 Ford pickup. They hold a record for the cl*** with their old engine at 96.383 mph.
I have been really excited about the engine I poured so much sweat and blood into running at Bonneville. I looked at yesterday's results and they ran 113.655 MPH - however they did not make a return run so they don't get an official record. I had recently talked to them and their goal was 110 mph. The only thing they have changed on the engine was taking off the 3 2s and putting on a single four barrel.
I don't know why they couldn't make the return run but I am anxiously waiting for results to see what happens next. Their number is 853 and cl*** is XF/MP.
Here's a couple of pics of their "shop truck" as they call it. I have my fingers crossed that my old flathead will be a record holder at Bonneville. That would be much better story for the motor (which has been raced since the 60s -dirt car, then drag, now land speed) than in some street rod somewhere.
Maybe this thred belongs on the main board but I thought you HA/GR guys might appreciate this.

    Brad ( a proud daddy!)

Brad.. That is so cool.. Of course I would have liked it better if it was still in a HA/GR car. Especially since I now have mine.. They aught to build a streamliner and stuff it in that..**** M......y

I glad you shared the story with us first. Your old flattie has had a much more interesting life than a lot of people!

That is good news. The old girl is really hauling ***, considering it's pushing that barn door through the bad air up there.

I just realized why they didn't make a return run yesterday. Since that run qualified them to try to break a record they would have gone straight to impound where the truck would have stayed overnight until the record run attempts first thing this morning. That's what I am hoping happened anyway.
You are right Randy. The old girl is making some good power to push that truck that fast. Their old engine was pretty healthy (so they told me) and to improve by over 7 mph is pretty impressive. I wonder what the frontal area on that thing is???

Well, it's official. The old Ford broke the old record of 96.383 mph with a 105.482 record and then on the last day broke that record with a 111.719 record. I guess they could never back up the 113 mph run. I am very proud. If that old flathead merc could talk she'd have some great stories - dirt track, drag racing and now land speed. What a history!!

I got on here to see what was going on and reading your post just made my day. To think that old flattie went from my shop to yours then on to set a record at Bonneville just blows my mind. I know all the old dirt track tricks in that engine. Then you added your signature to it, and improved it even more. But to think that it went on to set a record on the salt made this old man smile. Thanks for posting the news on the HAMB.
