The reality is that most people don't care about early cars. Many people have no emotional connection. They are so old they're outside of most people experience. That " I had one of those in high school" connection isnt there. Out of fashion with declining values to follow. How many horse and buggy shoes have you guys been too lately? The times are changing.

What's even more disheartening is watching them walk by to only look at the cars that they can see on a new car dealership or shopping mall parking lot

  3. To see original steel in such great condition after so many years in storage should leave most of us in envy. Pictures are so good, I'm using some for wallpaper. Engine and interior photos next?

I watched the auction at Hershey last week and saw a 1932 three window coupe with reproduction fenders and fire wall complete with a set of the new repop Ardun heads and supercharger sell for $82,500 plus a 10% buyers fee bringing it over $91k with lively bidding so there is still hope !

  5. Yeah that's BIG MONEY... Those Ardun Heads can fetch 10 grand (Don Orosco), not even sure if this price is for the set or each! Love the awesome look of those Ardun heads, reminds me of my Hemi heads! 165.jpg

Not to distract from your posts but to me this depicts the essence of why I attend what I attend. This is the crew of this ride, getting ready for this years 'OMG' Reliability Run at the Hotrod Hill Climb. It is about the people and sharing what you have and know, with them. There are many uneducated in the m***es and we 'like what we know'. If and when I attend a show where 'you sit all day, in a chair, behind the car' I get my *** out of it and talk to the folks who come look at it. If you don't tell them, they remain uneducated as to the story of your car and what it is about. I also make it a point to meet the folks around me and hear their story even if their car isn't my dream car....it is theirs. Additionally, if there is a youngster, I always explain not to touch any other car without the permission of the owner but I would be honored if they would get in mine and pretend they are driving it like they stole it, that is if it is OK with their folks. The shy ones won't but a majority will and the parents whip out the photo taking device.
Your car is a looker and you know it plus you know its story. Take it where ever you take it for whatever reason but I'd suggest that you tell your story...

  8. Thank you sir!! Details - Details - Details... The Edmunds air cleaners, Offy heads, Stewart Warner gauges, '39 Ford Banjo steering wheel, and lastly, the Buick finned drums. Just awesome man!! I'm installing these repo Buick drum covers on mine as well eventually.

An electric fan and an electric fuel pump along with a Power Gen alternator and the SoCal switches don't exactly scream original '50s hot rod but a nice survivor none the less.

Good observations! We've found that a few modern concessions really help if you actually want to drive it, which we do.
Don't worry, we still have all the original parts in storage. ;)

Thanks Indy...you do have an amazing Hotrod. Keep those pics and stories coming. Perhaps start a thread dedicated to your Hotrod's history and it's journey with you. You will find lots of positive well deserved support for it here. This thread theme is otherwise. Do you have video of your Hillclimb?

By the way as others have alluded times are changing with the p***ion that is our hobby. There are threads on it just couldn't find one. They usually get a little emotional.

    Its not really ignorance...
It is in a sense again as alluded here it is our responsibility to educate pleasantly what is and what is not period. It is part of preserving history. Reciprocating with negativity will not help the understanding of what is not known.

Not sure if you checked Indys thread on the hillclimb I posted with the pic back on page 1 of this thread. There is some info and pics on the Hotrod but again a separate thread is certainly warranted.

What do you say @indianapolisracer. Your getting more comfortable with posting the stories and pics...so a thread dedicated to the Hotrod with all details? We'd like that...;)...Hey that Photobucket...it has resulted in so many cl***ic fantastic threads here being picture busted. Perhaps you have an account but boy that ain't cheap to save pics to. Hate to see this or any thread red x'd.

I’ve learned in my short time on this rock that life isn’t fair. You work, pay taxes, then you die. It’s all the little things in between that make life fun. Don’t sweat it. Right now there is a guy on a mopar forum board complaining that the judges didn’t spend enough time looking at his car, instead they were looking at a new lime green hellcat for 16 minutes.... get the picture? Your car is super cool! You built it for you to love. I hope you love it. Drive that thing around in traffic and see how many dads stuck in minivans will stare at you and wish they were you. I love doing that in cars we build. It’s better than any trophy!!!

I have found the over chromed and very shiny vehicles get most of the attention at shows with judges,I was suprised that I got a first place with my stock looking 37 Chevy p/u that is far from a show car but it was at a participant judged show. It seems like most at that show liked my truck and a 35 Dodge truck as we we the only prewar trucks in that show,I now have a first place plaque to hang on my wall which might stay up for a few months until I find something else to hang there. I enjoy driving mine and usually stay away from shows but go to this show to help out the club putting it on.

With a great car like that who the hell needs a trophy?! Your trophy is right here...given to you by the people that really appreciate the vehicle.

I've been looking around to buy a 32 thought I knew exactly what I wanted, but now I want one just like yours! Beautiful.
Not everyone at shows has a fully mature taste.

    Your coupe is perfect!
EVERY show, run, cruise in, etc. has its share of the "great unwashed" who don't "get" a car like yours. Who cares!???
I would be drooling all over it. As Baskerville used to say: "It's just *****in'!"

I don't have time to read all the posts here and I imagine you may have been slammed some for it. Just wanted to say you /have had company from me and many others through time that just will not admit it. For me it was with a low mileage '66 Riviera GS, (54K), factory dual quad car, only 169 built, bought out of a collection in '90. I'd given up the car thing raising three girls along time ago. Now the kids were gone, (along with the wife), new job, great money and started back into the car scene. I'd had some nice street cars up until my mid 30's, so was in tune a little with what was what in the cars world.
Log story short. The Riviera was close to show ready coming from a collection. Condition, paint especially, interior, wheels etc. all first shelf. The 425 duals needed a lot of cleaning, brightening, paint etc. that took some dollars and hours of work, including rebuild of the carbs, and hotter cam. The car was truly stunning. Now I'd been going as a spectator to shows for a few years, both here in Seattle area and back in New York where I spent time as a field rep for a large aircraft co. Point : I knew what to expect or so I thought. First time out to one of the largest was the fall of '90. Was a for sure winner I just knew that. HA. No buddy remotely ***ociated in the car world, does Riviera's,. So it went for at least a year no trophy's. Ho, boo hoo, whine, whine, then...……… of all things a plaque for...………...are ya ready...……...peoples choice for...……..best street rod. What?? Well that kind of broke the ice and the cry baby in me began to be consoled. I was finally in compe***ion with those F'n Chev's and holding my own. Not bragging here but after awhile it didn't matter, award or no award.
Just going, having a good time, looking and learning about others cars and meeting great people became the good part of showing up. I married during those years and my wife convinced me eventually of how arbitrary judging and judges are and can be. To day the car lives with someone else in his collection and I show my car in the Avatar. I was awarded in its first time out, but they had to drop it off at the house because I always leave early now to beat the crowds. Oh...…..and I've acted as a judge in the past and I can attest as to being arbitrary and biased to the max when I did that. Sometimes IT IS who you know.

I just experienced what the guy is talking about. I went to a local show this past weekend that was themed “Nostalgic Drags and Car Show”. They awarded top 35 and in the line up there were a hand full of late 60’s early 70’s cars that were very, very nice cars but they weren’t nostalgic, they were muscle cars. I seen close to a dozen cars that I thought would be in the line up but only 1/2 of them really did. I got a little ticked, not because I didn’t get an award, I was ticked because in my mind they shouldn’t of been there.
