I got back last night from my first and hopefully not my only trip to the Hershey, PA swap meet and and despite the rainy weather, I did manage to find a few things to bring home with me. A good friend who goes every chance he get's called me a couple weeks before and invited me to ride along and since it's a pretty long haul from southwest Missouri to Hershey, PA, I jumped at the chance. Here's a list of some of what I managed to buy on the trip. decent 30/31 model A roadster door 30/31 roadster cowl 32 firewall (2) 32 cowl vent lids - one with hinge and hole 32 ford windshield outside header 32 ford front and rear bumper irons 30/31 cowl band pair of nice guide headlights with new rings one new in package Coker 235-85-15 wide white tire 31 model A gas tank filler strip (3) 30/31 Visors 36 ford spare tire cover including ring (2) 16" ford wire wheels and (1) 18" new 55 chevy 2 door floor pan several 49 ford dash knobs and window cranks early oversize license plate frames 69 to 75 GM tilt column Nice blue 1970 Honda mini trail 50 (2) new left side stampings of airplane pedal cars old pedal car boat I had planned on going and selling too but the last minute, my wife didn't feel well and decided to stay home and I didn't want to be tied down to the booth selling. Also, I was planning to sell a big part of my lifetime parts collection and I'm glad I didn't. I'm just not ready.
We set up and sold ‘41-‘46 Chevy/GMC truck parts. I got a chance to walk the fields on Monday with my wife. It was a nice day and about 25% of the vendors were open. Tuesday dawned a rainy day. Not a gully washer, but enough to keep many of the spectators away. Wednesday was much better, although there was drizzle from time to time all day. Thursday was a glorious day after a chilly start. Sales were steady, but not spectacular. Of course, Friday is all about the car show and very few vendors remain. Here are a few picture in and around my spaces.
I found a heater for my '40 Ford "woodie" and had a great lunch with Jeff "five-window". A great Hershey!
I didn't take a lot of pictures and several that I did take was something that I took to send to my wife knowing that she would like, so here's most of what I took.
We were pulling a 32 foot trailer but there wasn't much room inside it. We had the 32 in the pictures in front on it's way to Texas and a late model Jaguar convertible on it's way somewhere out west. All our stuff got piled in the back of the pickup at least three feet higher than the cab and strapped down. We looked like we were from a scene from the grapes of wrath.
Going to use this STOP light as a third brake light. Never seen one like it before. Found a spare window handle for my Willys, it was a perfect match, and I was going on memory alone. Got a duplicate of my first subscription Hot Rod for a dollar!
It's actually a Pontiac mounted on a 45*. The guy said it was built to run Indy in '64 but wasn't completed in time, and by '65 everyone had gone to rear engine cars. They wound up shortening it up and running it as a sprint car for a few seasons before it was parked for good around '67.
