Took my ha/gr to WI International raceway Yesterday, Sept. 8. and had 3 great runs. Off the trailer- 12.470 at 107.065 60' at 1.876 2nd run at- 12.418 at 107.630 60' at 1.828 last run at- 12.346 at 107.724 60' at 1.809 with pulling the front wheels off the ground. I never dreamed that it would hook that hard, unbelievable. Where does the 12.346 stand as far as the best et for the gas rails?
Good run, I think that you are just under the Ram from ow***o, (just north of Tulsa). I think their best is about 12.43, we can get that story from mr.mac. How many gears do you use?
WAY TO GO LET ME BE A**** THE FIRST TO SAY JOB WELL DONE the HORNET has run 12.30 flat at 107.59 with 6 runs in the 12.30s 60 ft 1.70s consistently with 2 at 1.66 /1.68 The okie outlaw a Flathead car ran 11.816 /110.31 60ft 1.752 they have made 6 runs in the 11s this was aug 31 the red baron gmc car rana11.89 /111.23 /60ft1.806 same night .The speed merchants ran a 12 .71/107 FH car When weran you at indy we ran a12.45 /102.12 /60ft 1.72 as a comparison . What wasyourKeep up 1000ft speed okie outlaw 91.82 red baron 91.64 hornet 87.11 I would say you were top dog of the stick shifts and HAMB as the other three cars were banned. Keep up the good work mudflap one of the hornets
Good job. I'd say you are the quickest and fastest HA/GR right now. Go ahead and have seconds for dinner from now on.
I looked through the timing slips and compared 1/8 speeds /et youare right in the hunt just a few thousands diff up or down. I see you are picking up 19to20 mph from the 1/8 to the finish line which is what the other cars are doing these cars make their move about 150ft out and are doneby the 1/8 . just think we are now as fast as junior dragster This is so much fun hunting for 1or 2 hp anybody who thinks this cl*** isnt compitive is full of it
Those are some great runs 2b Banjo! Liftin the wheels-hot damn! you are the fastest/quickest HA/GR. We have run 107MPH but are still working at getting our ET whittled down. What were the weather conditions like when you ran the 12.34? Just want to make a clarification to what mudflap said- No cars have ever been banned,(I think Ryan would take offense to that) only auto ******s and modern 4 bl carbs. Brad
I think what Ryan actually said was that the cars are not banned, they just aren't HA/GRs. They can run at the HAMB Drags with no problem, just not in the HA/GR cl***.
I did the 12.41 run at 4:00 pm, so I told my pit man, Gerry, that I think we could do a 12.3? if we let it cool off some. We waited until 7:00 pm and did the 12.34. The temp at 4 pm was about 79 deg. and at 7 pm about 75 deg. The Sun was off the track also at this point. I was wanting to wait another hr. or so and run again, but was so happy with the 12.34 that we hung it up. The air was also very light, not much humidy. One other factor was that the track conditions were excellent, as it did pull the front end. I never thought possible.
wow........Congrats, that's awesome. Just out of curiosity, what sort of weight is that car, any rough idea? Similarly, what diff ratio are you using? Congrats again, ya gotta see if you can get someone to get a shot of the front wheels lifting, that's crazy.... Cheers, Drewfus
Probably about 1300 Lbs and am running a 4.3 rear axle ratio. Thanks for the congrats, the condition were exceptional. The strip camera man was at the starting line, so the next time I go, I want to check if he caught that or not, or anyone else? 2b
2B- we are knocking on your door! We made a jet change and headed for Tulsa yesterday for the last SDRA race. first 3 runs were tire spinning/shaking disasters - had to let off and pedal it- low 13s at 108 mph. We were making more power but couldn't hook it for ****. Took a little timing out and had to learn how to launch the car all over again with the new found power. Final run was just a small amount of spin with no shake- 12.41 @ 109 MPH It was about 75 deg with a stiff headwind. We are running 20 lbs air in the tires- what are you running for pressure 2B? Brad
Brad, Great run, you should now be top speed record holder!!! Wow!!! Probably got robbed some with the head wind. Did you lean out or richen up? On my 12.34 run I was running 17# in rear tires. How was the track, sounded a little slick? What were the results at Tulsa? Hope to make it to some of the SDRA races next year, Pending on gas, etc. Maybe me and Cowboy Bob can double up and share costs. Any plans for the off season on car? What are the other teams going to do or change, HA/GR or SDRA? My plans are to get back-up motor going and make a splash shield for over carbs, drill front axle.
We richened up the 2 outside carbs. I don't know about the track, some of us were spinning and some had no trouble. The results were Okie outlaws 1, red Baron 2 in the yard dog bracket and Speed Merchants 1 and Hornets 2 in the porch dog bracket. The red Baron and Oakie outlaw were running 11.70s all day. I think top speed of the meet was 111 or 112 by the red baron. The Ramrods are gonna go home and tear down their motor. They are fighting a serious gremlin and nothing they try seems to help. Joe Hamby is running a bone stock slant six while building another race motor after his first blew up. crooked six has been a no-show last 2 races. WE MISS YOU Sean! Randy and I have had fun trying to be an occasional spoiler to the 3 faster auto trans cars. I guess we keep them on their toes if nothing else and we keep sneaking up on them with our ETs. We consider the SDRA races paid test and tune/research and development races where we are always the underdogs and really have nothing to lose. It's fun. Over the winter we might change rear end gears, try some new headers etc. I might even pull the intake and adjust the valves I will probably pull the pan and check the bearings. I am a little concerned about the thrust bearing with all the hard launches and a standard trans. We aren't going to change too much I don't think as we have not wrung everything out of our current combo. Back up motor! Damn, you are serious!!! Brad
2B Brad left out the best part it was side by side race with the Hornet 12.39 to 12.41 which Brad won The RED BARON GMC car and OKIE OUTLAW FH car had side by side at 11.70 111.92 RB to a 11.73 110.32 OO Baron redlighted to give the 5 race championship to the OO. SPEED MERCHANTS have shown a steady improvement at each race this year and deserve a BIG ATTA BOY
We were stoked when we got into the 12's. That last run was outa sight. One more thing Brad left out. He cut a perfect light. I mean a 0.000 hole-in-one. We had two runs over 109 last night. I think it ran a 12.93 at 109.38 then the 12.41 at around 109.18. I think stands as the speed record for a HAMB legal rail.
That was quite a night of racing!!! Thanks alot for filling us in on the action. So is the season done for Tulsa or do you have any other races going? It should be a real compe***ive year in 2008. Brad, congrads on a great race and on the top speed record. 2b
Thanks 2b but its a team effort. I couldn't do it without Randy. Mudflap is right, it was some good side by side racing. Now if we can just find a half second of ET over the winter............ That is it for the SDRA points races but there is a nostalgia race at Tulsa Oct 20 and the AHRA reunion at Mokan Oct 7. I ***ume we'll run both of those just for fun. Brad
Alright, Brad and 2b, yall are making it real hard!! I'm fixing to build a motor for mine and was thinking low 13's will not be that hard to get too. Now I have to re-think, and start over and try the low and high 12's!! That's alright, I'll be ready next August.
REJ, When we rolled off the trailer with the current engine combo we have now we ran high 13s. That was 2 years and 3 ******s ago. We have been whacking a few hundreths or a tenth at a time from there without ever changing parts- just driving style and tuning. Baby steps for us......... You'll get there. Brad
