Looks great, Steve, and good luck. What Hemi do you have? Looks like small blisters on the hood sides.
I have a bunch of your parts on my roadster, but it doesn't look anywhere as good as yours. Not the fault of your parts, though (smile). Keep us posted...

The engine is a British Daimler Hemi 4.5 liter (276 cu in ) in was designed by William Turner (Triumph motorcycle engine designer ) Built from 1958 - 1968 when Jaguar took over Daimler & didn't want an engine faster than the Jag 6 so they killed the engine. The 4.5 was used in the Daimler Majestic Major & the Limousines (The Queen uses Daimler )the built just over 2000 cars with this engine ) all hand built & Blueprinted. The 2.5 went in the SP 250 sports car ( Daimler Dart ) & the Daimler V8 Sedan a lot of those were produced. The engine has an Iron block & aluminum hemi heads.Ran SU carbs side by side , I built an intake to use 3 97's , I got 26 mpg going to Paso (5 speed & Quick change ). Brilliant & very rare engine . It fits in my Deuce with NO hood bulges which shocked the shit out of me. Thanks for the comments , there is the info on the engine for those interested ( I managed to by another 2 from a collector in England so I guess I have the monopoly on them over here ;) .
I don't have a photo of the engine here at home I'll post one later .

Here ya go Steve - here's some poor shots of mine, which was hot rodded by the Jaguar skunkworks - taken out to 305 ci. You can see the standard opposed twin SU setup. The engine weighs 498 lbs. all up - heads are aluminum and as Steve says - brilliant engine!

That's great Weasel ,what are your plans with it ? . Jay at Taylor Engines (RIP ) did my engine work , they really are a wonderful piece , no rear main seal , 3 "piston rings" inside the rear main cap keeps the oil in the engine , the front has a reverse screw ala VW , no leaks at all .

  26. Bob McGrath used a 2.5 Daimler with a cool Potvin style front mounted blower set up in his Red Head streamliner on the salt. He set a record at 225 with it in the early 60's. That baby hemi sure looked good with the blower on it.

Wow Dean I'd like to see that , We have a 2.5 at the shop with a 371 blower & a 2 port injector , zoomies etc , looks like a scale model FED engine , which I suppose it is, see you at the show Dean.

Steve, I am told this is the factory hot rodded engine (high compression forged pistons, hot cam etc.) that was covertly dropped into a Mk X Jag back in 1965 -'to see what she'll do', by the skunkworks racing engineers at Jaguar. Here's the story as I heard it:

The hybrid Daimler/Jag Mk X was embarrassingly quick - far more so than the 265 hp 4.2 Jag powered version. Management found out and order the car crushed - which it was. But fast forward to the mid 1970s and former Jag development engineer Ron Beatty founded Forward Engineering. Strangely:eek:, this engine miraculously 'resurfaced' after having been ordered destroyed.

I located the engine in Germany, to where it had been sold in the 1990s (fully rebuilt) and was planned to drop into a sleeper hot rod 2.5 Daimler sedan. However, the customer had got in too deep couldn't pay the bill. This is when I bought the engine from the tuning company who were trying to recoup their loss from the non paying customer, and I shipped it across from Germany for a new life in sunny So Cal.

Plans for it? Not firmed up yet but the odds are on a Willys.

Jay was a great guy and a sad loss to the hot rodding community.:(:(:(
