Denise - your the best. But, this post is one of the most embarassing for me, I had to scoot further under my desk, and hoped like hell no one would need me (blood pressure issues, you understand). DAMN that is a fine museum, those engines, those cars, those displays. Your photo's are priceless.
And Malcolm, what a cool dude. It's ALWAYS good to see him. Hey Ian and Big Otis, looking forward to seeing all you guys at Roundup.
Glad you made the party, dear. Good time was had by all.
    Thanks again for the coverage.

Thanks, Ken! Now I just need to make sure I get a ride in that Hot Rod Pickup of yours. We'll definitely see ya in the spring at the Roundup. I've been looking forward to it since we got back home in April!

    "For the Fun of It"

This was a theme Denise and I heard from "Speedy" Bill Smith of Speedway Motors in Lincoln, Nebraska.

When the fun goes out, then the enthusiasm will also follow.

This whole thing started with a phone call made by Denise to Malcolm on Saturday night late while we, Hot-Rod-Roadster, Rob Lee and I were at the bar in Morris after the Pile up. Denise left a sugestive voice mail for Malcollm.

After the Pile-Up, we all left for our various residences. I knew there was going to be a Holloween bash at Malcolm's on the 27th. Ok. But on Wednesday, I got a Hair up my Ass, it would be neat to see if Denise could come to Nebraska, and supprise Malcolm, and give him a suggestion in person. And it just started rollling from there.

Denise was due to fly in early on Saturday afternoon, and I was trying to come up with something I could play tourist guide for her while we waited for evening to come.

I ended up calling to Speedway, and spoke with John MacKichan, from Speedway Museum Operations. I explained Denise would be coming in from Detroit, and was sort of the official, un-official writer/photographer for events for we here on the H.A.M.B.

It was a go, not only that, but "Speedy" Bill Smith would be the one who would conduct the tour. Not only that, but normally the museum is closed on the week-ends.

From there, I knew this would be a week-end she would not forget.

When we first met Bill that Saturday afternoon, Bill went on to dfiscuss what it is like going to the Indy 500 races today vs yesteryear. Bill's comment was, people go for the "Fun" of it.

And this followed as to what brought about this whole week-end.

It's for the Fun of It.

I had fun bringing Denise to Nebraska. On Saturday evening, at one point, I went out to the road, and just stood back and watched. I have to tell you, that brought a smile to my face, seeing all of the others there enjoying themselves, and enjoying the company of the H.A.M.B's own. That was my reward for all of this. I had fun doing it.

I think I have been a member of the H.A.M.B for what, maybe three years now, maybe longer, because I've been to all of the Hunnert Car Pile-up's except for the very first one. In that time, I have went to various H.A.M.B events, been on reliabilty runs, met new H.A.M.B,ers from all over, and have fun doing it all.

I am on the senior side of things, but things like this, having fun with all of you, is partly what keeps me young, or at least young at heart.

So I might ask of all members of the H.A.M.B. just have fun at what you're doing. It can get testy or aggravating, but remember, it's what we do to have fun.

Keep both wheels between the ditches, and drive safe.

I think you've said a lot in a little bit of words. Often times I (and I know Denise as well) get asked why do you drive across the country to go to a car show? Why are you picking up these parts and taking them 2 hours away to someone you've never met? Why are you driving to Michigan to put calendars in envelopes?

    For the fun of it!

Life is an adventure and a short one at that. Live it up!

PS- You have no idea (but I'm sure Denise gave you an idea) of how much I would have LOVED to have been on that tour. All those engines, so little time. Good thing they aren't mine. :D

P.S. I'll be leaving for Illinois in the morning, I've got those wheels in the trunk as I write, so you'll have a roller in about a week and a half.

Up to 20 images which include photos and similies in each "post", but there is no limit to how many "posts/replies" in each THREAD.

Drive safe my friend. Thanks again for a fabulous weekend.

Perhaps this needs to be our "theme" for next summers adventures:D

    Wonderful words to live by.

He didn't have time to call BUT he certainly talked about you two and really wanted you at the party as well.

Ya know after looking at all these posts it suddenly occured to me that we here in Nebraska really maybe don't appreciate what we have with Speedway and the likes of Speedy Bill in our own back yards. I've been to the museum twice and still haven't seen it all, but I'm not sure I ever realized what a incredible place it is until hearing what everyone else hasn't had the chance to see. Don't get me wrong I know its special and possibly even hallowed ground, but when it's right here I never thought of it as that big of a deal.
It's no big secret it is still Nebraska and we don't have that much ( not even football this year ) but we do have the Hellraiser's, the Malcolms,The South Omaha Turds, and the Speedy Bills.
You can bet next time I'm in the museum I'll be paying a lot closer attention. JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT. Nuff said Dallas, very nice. Gary

Wow, thanks for the awesome post Denise! I loved the photos of the museum. And Malcolm throws a great party. Just one question, though. How can a self described "Hellraiser from Podunk, NE" turn into such a suave, well dressed gentleman? That great style plus extreme generosity allows me to nominate him to "SUPERFLY" status. Can I get an amen???

Very, very cool. Again. Personally, I'm glad to see some of the quality people on this board rising to the top. Thanks to Denise for bringing us along. I applaud you all for putting this thing together. Somtimes it takes some searching to find some decent reading, but whenever Denise's name is on a thread, it will be something extraordinary. Thanks

WOW, thanks Denise! I really appreciate the pics, the write up and your time spent sharing this with us. I owe you big time! What an excellent way to start a Friday at work, and I haven't even gotten to view the art show post yet!
