So I was thinking since no one seems to be biting on my 54 ford any where on the main board or on craigs list! Do I part the car out or do I finish a little more on the car to make it more apeeling? If you guys could give me your opinion! Thanks!:confused::mad::confused:

Chopped cars are like gold in today's marketplace, but...

In my humble opinion, you've got to have solved all the major problems before you can sell one. That means the metalwork needs to be finished so that the buyer can see the top line. It also means that the small stuff like garnish moldings and gl*** needs to be under control, preferably done and mocked into place.

Floors are pretty important, too, as is any rust work that needed to be done.

And, the car should be all one color so that it shows well in photographs. This will also allow the potential buyer to see the top line from more than one angle.

If it doesn't have a motor, the suspension should be mocked into place with the front springs removed and all-thread used in place of the shocks to simulate the finished ride height.

In short, I guess I agree with your notion that the more progress you've made on the car, the more appealing it will be to more potential buyers. Keep in mind that not all people have "vision", the ability to "see" a half-finished project the way it will look when it's completed. You've got to help these people along a bit by making it easier for them to complete the build in their mind.

Most people are also put off by the necessity to do bodywork, which they often consider a "black art" and beyond their capability. The more of this mysterious process you have completed, the more appealing the car will be to those who fear bodywork.

Just my $.02. Hope this helps. :)

Again, in my humble opinion, pricing and promotion are separate issues.

My previous post has to do with the promotion of the car to potential buyers. You are making it more attractive by increasing the car's positives and reducing the car's negatives.

Pricing is more a reflection of how soon you want to sell it.

If you need the money right away, price it low and continue to promote it, occasionally lowering the price until it sells.

If you are not in a big hurry to sell, price it high and continue to promote it while maintaining the high price, occasionally raising the price as improvements continue to be made, until somebody decides that the car is worth the money you're asking.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. Good luck! :)

I hate to see you give up on this project as it was really starting to show some good lines, but if you haven't done well on here or craigslist you might as well ebay it and set a minimum, check out what some of the 52-56 Fords are going for there, there seems to be a lot of bidding activity as of late.If you find it a good home have them join us so we can see the finished product. When selling on craigslist you can click on other locations and post your ad out of state too.

Thanks for the input guys! I'm just trying to make some funds for that merc that I had posted earlier in the week! It's just finding the time I guess. I think I might put a little more work into the ford, make it more presentable! I've got a motor and ******, maybe make a runner?!?!?!?

Noooooo!:eek::eek: There are enough Frankenfords in the world already. Build the Merc as a clean, early-style semi-custom - enhance the already timeless styling with carefully thought-out modifications. Blends of Ford/Merc are as bad as blends of early/late. Resist, resist, resist!
