Man, i was getting really low on gas so pulled in to fill up at a esso. Ran nice before i filled . Started ok but ran like **** on the way home about 3 miles or so. This is a busy gas station so i wasn't reluctant to fill there. My car is a 50 ford 302 auto and has been very good for the last 3 yrs. Electronic ign, 600 holley edel intake. Any thoughts? did i pull something into the carb running the tank low. Tank is new as well, mechanical fuel pump.
Could be water in the tank or like you said, picked up some trash. You could try running a clean can of gas directly into the carb to see if it runs smoother to isolate the problem. I got some bad gas before and it ran like **** all the way through west Texas until I ran it out and got more. I would changed fuel filter and put some additive that removes water anyway. Are those 410 Mercury valve covers you have adapted on there?
I'm with those guys - check for dirt in your fuel filter, and put some dry gas into your tank to absorb any possible water that may have gotten in there. I also like the idea of piping in fresh gas via a gas can to see if it's better. You can run some fuel house from a gas can into your fuel pump and let it run on the fresh fuel.
I love your car. I remember a long trip when my truck ran bad after a fill up but was ok after the next fill up. Run the bad gas thru before you worry.
Yes after thinking about it, like you guys said, run a gallon can off the side to see what happens. Maybe sea foam it with some octane booster as well. I bought a tank with a drain so maybe i'll take some out and throw it in the old daily truck to get rid of it. Those valve covers i bought at a swap meet. I think they are big block 66 f e. Adaptor plates to the 302
there is a screen behind the bolt on the fuel inlet on the holleys sometimes that will plug too . you probably drained the **** out of the tank . and mixed in some water . the dry out stuff is the "BAD ethanol or methanol depending on who packages it , seafoam will not pull water out of the system , a inline water /gas seperator or a new style EFI fuel filter will often make it drop out in line ( efi filters are super fine and stop the water droplet from p***ing thru )
let it sit until you are ready to work on it take the drain out of the tank the water will be on the bottom drain in to clear container if you can and when it is clean run the snot out of it Tom
I checked the coil and it's good so i tried a fuel dry and it actually works. It's all good. Thanks for the tips guys.
