    Ray, this is another I should have kept. It was built in 1932 by the famous Pop Dryer on a new 32 frame , it had a D.O. Dryer engine. It was built for Gil Purung a multimillionaire at that time. He later owned several Indy cars in the thirties. It had beautiful aluminum work, I'm sorry I didn't have the nose on it when I took the photo. He was attending Yale at the time and this was his daily transportation . I bought this car in Sudbury, Ma. stored in a barn for decades. It now is restored and is a very high dollar car. Ray, I hope I'm not wearing out my welcome here, but I thought the boys might be interested because its following exactly what you are building. This is another one that was sold for very short money about 25 years ago IMG_0845.JPG

    To the contrary Tommy. I love seeing these pics. Really motivates and inspires me as I'm sure it does for others. Only trouble is I'll have to build a whole lot more of them to get all the ideas out of my head. Keep the pics coming!

    Bulletin;
    "Hemming's Motor News" reports that 1940's fenders have reached an all time high in the area of re sale value. This phenomenon seems to have begun in Southern N.H., and is attributed to the "Ray Effect", which is an annual escalation of odd automobile parts in the New England area. Stay tuned for updates."

    So I went thru your thread very quickly(need to spend more time reading and drooling) are your axles stock width or did you shorten them.

    Ray, the story on this car is in 1946 one of the Miller fords that ran at Indy in the thirties got re-bodyed in 1946 to this single seater version . In 1985 it was discovered and this body was removed and a Miller 2 man body was constructed to bring this historical car back to its glory. I then bought this single seater body to possibly get back up on wheels. Well that never happened and I sold the body to a friend of mine. He had Richie Willet build a ch***ie for it and I built a strong flathead with a 39 box and a 40 rear. It turned out to be a real neat car. Thought you and the speed boys might like that story. I am sorry the photo is poor. Keep up the good work and keep this thread going, I'm doing my best to keep it alive. IMG_0853.JPG

    Very inspiring! The aluminum Dodge box works out great, just lengthen the sector. (various ways to do this, there's even a HAMB member making a kit!)

    What kind of radiator is that, please? (and how tall?)

    Just not sure what I'm going to tell DMV...might need to scare up a bill of sale!

    Stock width model a front and rear axles . Front tie rod arms are modified to put the tie rod below the wishbone. Wishbone is flipped , piecut and split for clearance to the tierod. It's a lot of work no one will ever notice.

    Mike the radiator is a cheap eBay 28-29 aluminum one . 19 1/2 wide at the tabs 23 tall. Can't beat the $180 price tag. I've run them in my past 3 cars with no issue.

    Gotta paint it black tho. Aluminum rads are not traditional.

    I have a soft spot for the bodies that were built this way with the rolled out or belled lower section. In this case (Post 222) to maintain the basic single seat body width but to fit the widened two man frame.

    There were a number of others. The 10 or so Kurtis midgets that had a Drake engine.

    OK , Ray and all you speed boys, here are some photos of the Miller front drive Fords [in all ten were built] they of course were 2 man cars [ driver and mechanic] . the last photo is of the car I owned as it was re-bodied to a single seater and re-powered by a 270 Offy. It made the big race at Indy this way in 1946. and how I explained it was turned back to the Miller Ford when it was restored in the eighties. Is that Miller body to DIE for or what ! especially the overhead shot showing how the mechanic sat back from the driver. it was mostly done so the driver would have a clear view to his right side.

    A pre-war Hilleg*** rail frame body that was rolled or belled out for a tube frame.

    Very Kool. I totally get doing things that only you know you have done. It sure is a good feeling when someone picks up on those small details though.
