My son isn't comming home tonight...but don't worry he's ok

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by roadstar, Jan 4, 2004.

  1. Some of you know my son Race, and for the people who have never met him I can't say enough good things about him.
He is defanatly my best friend in the world. We have been working on cars togeather since he was a baby. I got pics of him helping me wet sand my 37 Chevy when he was three!

He has been working with me at the body shop since he was 17, He's 22 now. He was offered a job with CASI (Champianship Auto Shows) To go on the road during the Indoor Car Show season and handle the displays that pertain to the show. Commericial displays ect.

The job entails being on the road from jan till late april when the season is over.

This is the first time he has been away from home and I'm gonna miss him terribly. We work togeather on all the projects I do for myself and customers Hotrods I (we) build.

The house is real quiet tonight and I hate the thought of him not coming home even if it is at 4am some nights [IMG]

Just thought I would share this with the friends I have made here. I'm having alittle bit of a hard time with this right now but I know it's just a "Parent" thing and I will get over it soon.

    Thanks for listening.

I feel for ya. But don't think for half a second Race doesn't feel the same way. He was talkin bout how he wished you could go with him and how weird it was going to be without you. Hell, I think anyone that gets to know him misses him when hes not around...I know I do!!
So don't be sad it'll be ok and when he gets back l expect you two to tear it up twice as hard to make up for lost months..I want some good stories!! haha
And if you need any cheerin up let me know l'll see if l can't find some more funny pics for ya [IMG]

Set them free and they will return a better man. Just think of the experience he is getting.

Race is one of my most favorite guys on the eastside [IMG] He's an awesome young man that you should be very proud of. It's always a pleasure to be in his company. I'm going to miss him too.

  5. Hey Rudy, I was really hoping to be able to get to Austin this weekend and see him, but I'm BURIED under half painted stuff that HAS to be ccompletely painted in the next 4 days. Next time you talk to him, tell him I said "hey" and I'll see him in Feb., in Murder City.

  6. Dan, he is actually on his way to Boston in a raging snow storm as we speek. He's due in Dallas in April I belive.

So get your***** done so you have time to hang with him then.
    See you in feb.

  7. I feel for ya man...I have two youngs and I can't imagine the day they leave the nest. Kids are an unbelievable light in our lives. I think it's cool that he is staying in the car business. It sounds like you were hoping he would carry on the business with you but wait and see. I know a number of families that had similar situations...kids working the family biz, then leave home to work and then return to the family business. When he returns, imagine the new experiences he will bring.

For tonight...know you gave him everything he needs to succeed, that you should be happy that he is happy, and that he will be back.

If that doesn't work, take a couple of stiff shots, curl up in the fetal position and cry like a baby!

Hey roadstar I feel your pain. I have 2 daughters, 21 single & 25 married w kids & a son 32 married with kids. They were all here Christmas & damn it was a bummer when they left. I moped around for a week. 21 yr old moved out last May, had commuted to school as long as she could, moved 2 hrs away, same city as sister. Missed the hell out of each one as they stretched their wings & flew the coop. I live in a rural area, opportunities young ones not too great around here. I want them to have the best life possible so I grinned & sent them on their way. But they come home every few months. Wish you had posted this Friday, from what Barnett said I could have looked up your son as I went to the show in Austin yesterday! Hang in there it takes a lotta love to let them go.

Rudy, I don't think for one minute you have anything to worry about having Race out on his own. I've had a chance to get to know you and him as well the last couple of years. I don't mean to imply that I know both of you REAL well, but I have had some experience with youth in working with young people and the relationship you two have and present to the world when you are together is a solid one and one of mutual respect. I think you have raised him well and I predict that whatever he does he will make you proud (I know for a fact you just about burst with pride over him now). Whatever the future holds I'm sure that the bond between the two of you will only grow stronger, and as already been stated it wouldn't surprise me if the two of you ended up sharing a professional life as well.

  11. I will definitely do my best to get to Dallas! When, exactly, is the AutoRama in Detroit? Maybe I'll see him, here, in S.A. when it passes through town (FEB?)?! It's gonna be a real fun year, this year!

It will be a good experience for him Rudy. My club helps to put on the show at the Indianapols fairgrounds Jan. 30-31& Feb.1. I'll be there Thursday thru Sunday working and helping out the promoters. I'll be sure to look Race up while I'm there. Tell him to come back to the show office...we always have a fridge full of beer!!!! [IMG] [IMG] Oh yeah, my club is the Indy Hi-winders...tell him to ask for Don Anderson. We will have the black car club jackets on.

I know how you feel. It's really terrible to know your son or daughter isn't going to be around to share your fun. My oldest son used to help me quite a bit when I was building my 51 Chevy pickup. I lost him to an automobile accident at 21 years old. Just goes to show we all can find someone who is worse off. even I still have two other beautiful kids who I love and brag about. Keep smiling.. You can be proud of his accomplishments and hes always just a phone call away.

Rudy you did great job raising him so don’t' worry about it. It sounds like a fun opportunity for him. I know you may always see him as your little boy, but he's a man, a young man, but still a man, he'll be just fine.

    Rudy,
I know how you feel. I've got three sons and all three are gone. Two of them live out of state so we only see them a couple of times a year. Unfortunately it happens all too often these days.
What a great experience for Race though. You should feel happy for him and I know you are proud of him. He's a good kid.

Hey Rudy, I****ume he's gonna be in Green Bay in March, we'll look him up and show him around. I know what you mean though, my son has been in Dallas for the last 8 years and it*****'s not to be able to see him. He just moved to the northern Chicago suburbs last month and now we'll be able to see him a lot more often. Was nice to have him home for Christmas, Daughter has been in Madison so she get's here quite often. Make sure Bob Jr. doesn't work him too hard. See ya in Aug on the Salt.
