I just thought I would share what I have done so far and here's what it is. I don't want to loose my glove box to a head unit, and was not going to mount it under the dash. So I found the thread on hidden iPod systems and went that route. It just so happens that my neighbor does stereo installs on the side and had an amp and crossover he was selling cheap. Mounted those in the trunk. I was adjusting the volume on the iPod itself, but that was dificult and dangerous when driving. So I got a cheap sub control and mounted it in the original radio. I had to use the existing knobs to extend out to the front face of the radio. Now everything is back in, looking stock and sounding killer. Last thing left to do is mount the front speakers, and that is where I'm looking for input. I was thinking about custom kick panels for them. I can install them high enough that they would barely be visible, but still facing the right direction and sound good. I would cover them in the same color material as the rest of the interior so they would not look out of place. I've also read that some people install them under the dash facing down, but I'm not sure how that would sound. Or I could mount them in the doors, and would only have to make a very small modification to the original hole there being they are 6.5" speakers. What have you guys done?
Sounds good! I just use the Live 365 app on my phone, and listen to the Motorbilly show by DJ DelVilareal. Sometime I also listen to Hotrodzilla. I do miss my wornout JCash cds tough...
Cool. I just checked out that channel. Good stuff. So your phones speaker is loud enough to hear when you drive? Or do you have it hooked up like mine?
If you mount them in the doors be sure and get these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-PAIR-OF...407?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item54108bd537 otherwise dirt and rain will kill the speakers, while you are in the doors you may want to clean and enlarge the drain holes.
Phone speaker is good enough for a decent sound, as probably most are, but I not very demanding on sound quality. Its cool to have a radio station shufflin your music but, as I said, I miss hearing the same cd over and over again at times. Your setup is very nice.
