It will be 2 years this summer since I first discovered the HAMB and I think about a year since I joined but I've never really gotten around to posting an introduction. I wanted to wait until I had some pictures of my cars but I lag so I should probably just get on with it already. I've been into cars my whole life. My dad was a hot rodder and amateur drag racer in the 50's and 60's. He grew up in Richmond CA and bought his first car, a 49 Ford, in 1954 at age 15. Him and his friends had a car club called The Road Hoppers and would drive all over nor-cal drag racing. By the time I came along in 1970, he had pretty much settled down into the 9-5, married, and raising kids thing. My dad taught me as much as he could about cars. Mostly he taught me how to be a good driver and a love for cl***ic automobiles. Growing up, my families main cars were a 1963 Chevy Belair and a 1954 Chevy truck. We used the truck for everything from family vacations, to hauling the wood to build my parents house and taking the pigs to the county fair. My dad almost sold it about 8 years ago but I caught him in time and made him promise never to sell it so I could eventually have it and work on it. Other than my dad, a lot of my automotive idols were what some people might call dirtbags. There was this group of older guys who would always hang out in the Safeway parking lot when I was in junior high. Their cars were all muscle cars with primer patches on them, hoods missing, and ****** and comp cams stickers. You remember the 1980's don't you. Suprisingly, they were always cool to me and didn't mind when I would wander over and want to talk to them about their cars. It was around that time that I fell in love with Mopars. There is just something so bad *** about a Mopar muscle car with primer on it. My first car was a 1963 VW bug. My first really sweet car was a 1965 Chevy Impala hard top painted cream yellow. I felt like a king driving that car around. I also got a lot of tickets and lost my license. I ended up selling it and travelling for a couple of years. I owned a few newer cars in between, but I could never really shake that "old car disease". A few years ago I finally bought a 1972 Dodge Demon and started making plans to restify my dad's 54 Chevy truck which now belongs to me. One of the guys from the Moparts web board turned me on to the HAMB. He goes by Primerduster318 over there and I think on here too. I've already learned a ton by just hanging out here and listening. My girlfriend and I are finally moving into a house with a garage next week and I can start using my own garage to work on stuff instead of always trying to do it in my friend's driveway. I'm hoping to start on my truck in the next month so I'll probably be asking a lot of questions in the general area of the forums. The HAMB is the best forum I've been on for cl***ic style hot rods and the knowledge and vibe here are second to none.
