Awesome Tudor, great story, thanks for all the very big detailed pictures. Maybe I need to find fenders for mine
we should hopefully be painting the body and fenders tomorrow night or tues night, the fenders just got sealed and i will put some slick sand on them tonight and hopefully be able to sand that tomorrow and put one more coat on them tomorrow afternoon and then some blue hopefully! jeff
I've got a few different groups I try to spend time with, but I usually park on the tree-lined boulevard next to the big open dirt parking area or on machinery hill near the Sweet Martha's cookie stand. Mmmmm . . . Sweet Martha's . . .
Wow how did I miss this one? need to catch up... very nice build. reminds me of a model car, only on a 1to1 scale....I like this..
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Best $20 bucks to spend, cookie MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM 26 hours of work left, hope it does not rain! Your car will be hard to miss.
A whole lotta fender work goin on this weekend . . . between trying to cut my finger off with Jeff's grinder anyway. Farmer patches . . . eek! This one looked ok with a heavy dose of mud and primer over the top, but once Jeff cut it out, it was clear that the " "backyard body man" who fixed it just put the patch right over the top of the rust without cutting it out. Luckily I have a boat load of junk Tudor rear fenders and we were able to cut a patch from one of them, saving a bunch of time.
In addition to grinding out a bunch of bronze filler rod and lead. Jeff and his dad also found a nice way to finish the hole in the apron area for the header downtubes. Nice dimpled holes. Some straightening on the grille shell peak. And we have Model A Windchimes! All sealed and in slick sand awaiting some sanding before getting sprayed in the blue DP.
There was still a little fab left for the gas tank and mount. So I jumped in to be Jeff's dad's helper. While using a grinder to cut some small pieces, I tried to cut my finger off instead. Jeff got woozy trying to help me clean it out, I bled on stuff . . . it was awesome! The 2 hours wasted at urgent care was a blast too. It doesn't look too bad -- didn't really even hurt that much, but it was through all the layers of skin. It looked fairly deep and they wanted to stitch me up, but glued it and bandaged it instead. I could have done that myself, but at least I got to spend some quality time in a doctors office! Despite me getting in the way and bleeding on stuff, the gas tank and filler turned out great.
Last night I pulled into Jeff's driveway to this scene: Jeff and his dad full of sanding dust, going to town on the body getting it ready for paint. You can also see in the photo if you look closely that they got the bottom of the car shot in the blue sealer as well. They also seam sealed the floors.
Titus sent these shots from this morning. Damn it looks good in the sunlight! Looks like the doors are hung and dash rail is on too!
And a shot of the front fenders and steering wheel in the "booth." The plan is to get the body and front fenders on the frame tonight. Can't wait! The clock is ticking . . .
Wow, it really pops in the sun. Lookin' good. I'm sure that it has been mentioned earlier, but I can't remember- what are your plans for the interior?
That is today's million dollar question! My original plan called for baby blue & white tuck & roll. Baby blue inserts on white seats, with baby blue piping, baby blue carpet. I'm still leaning this way, but Jeff is trying to talk me into all white tuck & roll, baby blue piping and baby blue carpet. Thoughts? I can see it looking good both ways . . . so I'm torn!
So before I got to Jeff's last night, he and his dad had been busting ass (as usual). Towaholic and my dad made the trip down as well. This is what we saw when we got to the East Side Speed Shop.
Then it was time for another major milestone. I was nervous with excitement and a bit shaky even . . . Frame meet body . . . body meet frame . . . . ooooh you two look so nice together! Titus, RichB (Titus' Dad), towaholic, Stichbitch, my dad and I wrestled the body in place. Titus, RichB and towaholic get busy aligning, shimming and tightening body mount bolts.
Gauges in and steering wheel on. Not too shabby! Lots left to do, but I am absolutely overjoyed with how this car is coming together. Way beyond cool. Words can't express how happy I am to see a 23 year dream become reality!
Reminds me of my 1st car, a `35 Chevy Sedan Delivery, got it painted the day before the rod run. People would walk by and say " I smell paint "! Looking good, I too hope to check it out this weekend.
