So "Wednesday With Titus" didn't quite have the same ring as "Tuesdays With Titus," but I still went to the East Side Speed Shop to work on the Tudor last night: Chassis is DONE! Brake lines are run. Brakes are rebuilt. E-brake is hooked up. Pedal assembly is rebuilt. Everything is finish welded. It'll all be blown apart soon for some smoothing, painting the flatty and tranny, and putting a nice coat of gloss black on everything. And Eric (thirty two) got busy slingin some mud: They body will be going back on the frame shortly for final fitment and to build the gas tank and battery box behind the back seat. Once that's done, fuel lines and battery cables can be run. Then the floors can be welded in and seam sealed. The generator is out for a rebuild and 12 volt conversion now. Titus will be working on running the down tubes off the headers and into the splash aprons now. As soon as we can locate a set of decent running boards he'll finish up the rest of the exhaust and the kickstand lake pipes exiting at the rear of the boards. REALLY starting to look like something now!
Bullo, You and Titus are doing some real clean and simple work. This rod should be reliable and a great runner. Looking forward to your progress as you approach completion. Dave
If I was going to do one of these I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you for having a tastefully done Tudor. This thing is classy... need more pictures!
Ask and you shall receive. Updates from Titus: Titus made some downtubes off the headers (Headers built by saltflatmatt www.lakeheaders.com) through the splash aprons. I didn't want a flange on the bottom of the headers or before the apron, so the tubes are welded to the bottom of the header cone and the coupler will be under the apron for a smooth look. Right side is looking good thanks to the mudslinger aka thirty two! I'll be down at the shop tonight (after taking my lovely and VERY understanding wife out for a nice dinner!) to drop off some more bondo and show my wife the amazing progress. Can't wait to see it again even though it was less than two days ago I was at the shop!
Titus is the man on this one. I just follow orders and try not to get in the way. With thirty two rocking on rough in bodywork now too, things are really moving quickly.
Check that your parking brake really works fully, with it hooked directly to the bottom of the lever. I tried the same thing with the same components, and could not get enough travel on the cable. I had to create an idler arm to increase the ratio of travel (actually my little brother the engineer did it for me). Now my system runs like this: Lever> short rod> idler arm> connector rod to cable> stock yoke and cable. I think my idler upped the ratio by 1.5 or so.
We actuually extended the length of the e-brake arm so we have way more travel than needed. The crappy thing is that the springs on the new e-brake cable collapsed!! so i need to re-engineer the return springs. jeff
nuther pic Oh and i hate chopped cars, i bashed my head agains the upper door opening tonight.....hard!, dammit!
So I fired up the roadster and headed to the office. Looking out the window, this is what I saw: Couldn't wait for Tuesday's With Titus! More progress. Floors stitched in: Header downtubes done: Right side bodywork complete (except fenders and running boards): Lots of grinding, shrinking, stretching, beating and mudding on the back panel: Good progress. More to come!
Jeff and Bull, That "A" sedan is sure coming along great ! Looks like it will have some great proportions and stance. Going to make a neat Hot Rod to cruise in. Dave
Another day, another update . . . Front floor section with toeboard subrail repair: Initial mock-up of the nerf bar rear bumper and taillights. I've always dug 50's hot rods with nerfs and thought this was the perfect car for it. Playing around with adding another curved piece of tubing to create an oval around the taillights. Plate added to mount taillights. Mock-up. My thought is to skip the second piece of curved tubing around the lights and just add a straight vertical piece of tubing centered between the license plate and tailights, add some tabs to mount the license plate and call it done. It will get powdercoated white. Should look nice with the white headers, white tuck & roll running boards and top and WWW. I'm looking for more pics/ideas for the nerfs. Here's a car that's been inspirational in my build complete with nerfs.
This car is looking great. I dig the chop and fenders...very well proportioned. Looks like you're on the right track with the nerfs too.
That whole "chopped tudor with fenders" thing is working it's magic on me big time! Love that evil profile! It just looks like it's up to no good...
