I just wanted to share a couple of pictures of my rebuilt tri power carbs. They have come along ways since I paid $30.00 for them. A friend of mine had these buried in the corner of his garage for years, they were nasty, rusted and stuck closed. He sold them to me for $30.00, due to the fact that they were so terrible looking. I tried like hell to get them to free up, but i was afraid to break them. After spending a couple of weeks at a local carb shop, and a couple of hundred bucks later, I feel that the investment paid off. I am getting a free manifold for helping out at a local speed shop, therefore by the time I am finished with the full set-up, I should have less than $300.00 invested. And to think, I was considering paying big bucks for complete set-up. The moral of my story is, one mans garage clutter, another mans dream!
SO are the outside carbs real deal tripower carbs. By that I mean ones with no idle circits and thicker butterflys to seal up better when ideling.If so you are doing real good for what you have invested so far.
Cool, good score, I ended up getting a 57 Olds Tri-power manifold and carbs along with 7 good x-plies for around the usd 150.00 mark off a guy I was getting some Olds parts off a year or two ago, who says there is no positive side to divorce.....
Looking real good. I'm getting ready to put a 3-deuce setup on my sedan real soon. I'm gonna use aluminum fuel lines and polish 'em a little. Run them into a fuel block and put a small gauge in one end to keep a check on the fuel pressure. When you make up the progressive linkage make sure it works smoothly with no rough spots. You have about half the money invested in yours that I do in mine.
K&N makes filter elements for the little round air cleaners and they outflow the paper ones by 100%.
The outside carbs have a 3" neck, while the center has a 2 5/8" neck. I plan on running stacks on them, but I am in the market for some closed element ones also, to keep on hand for driving in the elements. Let me know whatch got. Thanks -Joe
I'm using an old manifold that was drilled and tapped for the 97's and 94's...three bolt pattern. Offenheuser makes a 1 1/2 aluminum block that lets you adapt it to rochester carbs...four bolt pattern. Gonna bead blast the whole thing and then clear it out. It should look cool on the engine with the carbs setting a little higher than usual. K&N makes a variety of different size filters to fit but they are expensive!!! Worth the extra money though because of the air flow. Mine should be done in a few weeks so I'll try to post some pics when I get 'em on the car.
