i picked up a 53 chevy pickup cab a few weeks a ago and ran across this marking, is this a normal mark or ? its on the windsheild center post about 5 inchs from the bottom. reminds me of a ranch brand.

Doesn't look like factory stuff to me. JMP might be the initials of a previous owner/builder.

  3. You've got me curious....I'll need to have a look at mine now.
I don't think it would have been stamped by a P.O. that would be tricky on account of the flexible nature of the centre bar.
That's taken a fair whack to indent the steel that much!

I assume that's on the outward face of the cab mounted bar?

both of my 60 chev elcamino tailgates have "spanked" stamped into the inner skin...wierd
imo that is probably just a factory stamping, when i blast stuff, I see lots of parts with random letters stamped in them.

it is the outward face of the bar, i'm starting to lean towards a dealership stamp, j???? motor park or plaza, i don't know much about 50's car lot names. its a halfton and was made at the LA plant
