I always wanted a front engine Corvair. Here's mine. I bought it, didn't build it. I saw this and told my wife that I always wanted 1 fast car, 1 nice car and 1 car with a blower before I die. So I figured I would do it all in one car. I sold a nice '60 Olds driver and a 47' Plymouth convert and threw some cash out there to get this. It's cool, made a few chages to it and still working out the bugs, but thinking of selling it already. I found out I'm not into the fast and loud cars like when I was a kid. Plus, I don't like having this much $ tied up in 1 car.
My apologies for hijacking this awesome thread here [ I always like clever engineering ] To rig up a shifter to a T5 type arrangement , look at a cable floor shifter from a Jap Van or a Lightweight Jap Truck [ eg Toyota Dyna ] They use two push/pull cables , but one cable goes forward/backward the other cable goes left/ right [ Toyota Hiace vans shift very fast ]
This car was built by GM eng'r / hobbyist in late 1960s, now owned by Ron Butera of Rochester, NY. Ron also owns an original Yenko Stinger. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN5abn_k4E8 Frank C.

That is a MID engined car with the engine in front of the rear wheels. A REAR engined car has the engine BEHIND the rear wheels.
Here are some shots of a Corvair that shows up all over at Colorado events. Runs a 4.5 Liter Buick / Rover V-8:
