Drop round to pick up some oil filters from Steve today and I have to say that the pictures do not do this build justice. It has real presence... I am even considering building one myself! Great work Steve, can't wait to see you at the HRD's! P.
Langy, I would love to use that orange plexi for my '31 "A" Coupe ! My rims are all ready painted a fleet orange. Will be checking for 3/16" orange plexi in a short while. Dave
Started fettling the door skins last night, with a bit of t******* they more or less went straight on, Held in place with a few small screws at the moment, hopefully bond them on tomorrow. Just a bit of gapping needed and we should be good to go.
Hello Dave, I'm a friend of Waynes but poorer so mine is a gl*** one, I'm honoured your watching this build.
Been looking around for door handles & window winders but couldn't find anything suitable so decided to make some, found some offcuts of 1" round stainless and a few bits of 3/16" stainless plate, These are similair to my 26T handles but more simple which fits in with the car. First job was to turn up and bore out the 1" bar for the handle bases. Next i needed to get the hole square to match the square shafts, a bit of 2mm stainless sheet was cut up and folded round a bit of square bar, then the joint was welded. Next the square tube was pressed into the bored out are of the handle bases. Next job was to weld them in. Then they went back in the lathe to be faced off. Heres the handles finished, they just need polishing to finish.
Finally picked up a pair of trail plates for the handles/locks, big thank you to my good friend Paul Nichols (morris460) who donated them. First job was to make up some solderless ******s as i'm using stainless cables to link them to the locks, I welded a ****** to each trail plate arm to accept the cable. The lock arm already has an arm ready to accept the cable ******. It all works real nice.
Not sure about great fab work but it does work nice, It will never be seen again once the doors are glued up, but thanks for the comment.
Damn Steve.... fabrication is awesome! Is there nothing you don't excel at? After finishing the Willys, could you think about solving world peace and maybe the world's economy thing?
Steve, most on here while are pretty savvy with a wrench aren't fabbing their own handles and door mechanisms. You are one of the handful on here that can do that so pat yourself on the back mate!
Langy, You are sure making some great progress. Really like the window winder handles. Keep up the great work. Dave
I'm not very good in the kitchen LOL Solving world peace & economy ??? I would certainly give it a go mate, can't do a worse job than those that are doing it now. Sent from my iPhone using TJJ
