Langy, Thanks for the build. What tool have you found works well to remove the fibergl*** for grill and window openings?

 

I use an air saw and clean up with a electric finger sander, thanks for the comment

Well obviously no progress as I'm still in the states but thanks to my good friend Don I got my headlights, taillights and door handles from Willys Replecement Parts.
The quality is perfect although they were a little spendy
They will finish the car off great though so worth it in the long run, I will post some pics when I get back to blighty next week.

You need to go up to Illinois October 8 for the 10'th and final Hunnert Car Pileup.

 

We went from Wyoming out to the Pile Up last year and had a great time.
WHY IS THIS THE FINAL ONE?????????????????

 

Back in blighty now, better get on with this project !!!

 

Well after getting over the jetlag i found a couple of hours today so decided to get my headlights/taillights fitted to give the car a face !!!

First job was to cutout the supplied template to find it wasn't as close as it first appeared to be

Any way i used it in the end but moved some of the holes around.








Next the bowl/reflector was trial fitted, these fit from behind so the back side of the GRP was sanded smooth for a good fit.








Then the outside bezel/gl*** was fitted, really makes the car look different and gives it a face.










Next i turned to the rear end, A quick phone call to my mate Wayne gave me the dimensions of where they should fit and holes were drilled.












While i was working at the rear i thought i would fit the battery cutoff switch, I went with one with alternator protection from Moroso.

Well I just went through all 28 pages and all I can say is AWESOME JOB !! I really enjoy seeing these builds. I have a few friends in the UK that take the time and patients that your doing

Well not much progress today due to getting up a bit late ain't jetlag a wonderful thing

Along with my lights i got the door handles too, Its difficult to use the original handles on a gl*** car as the originals sort of clip into place so Willys parts have modified them and do a verson just for gl*** cars that bolt in place, pretty well designed so you only see the screw heads when the handle is turned. They are very nicely made with good chrome plating.

I also made a colour descision today, Ian (bigbossman had done several photoshops for me in satin blue & grey but they just didn't work and looked horrible, So see as its a 60's car I have gone for a dark blue mini flake., not sure the pic will give its true colour and sparkle.








Someone commented that the header flanges didn't have enough room for the bolts so today i made a bit more headway with them and they are fine as i thought they would be.

 

Langy, Glad you had a good trip to the USA. I see your Willys is looking like a complete car. I would love to do a g***er - But can't do them all.

Langy, I was here all the time. I was keeping an eye on your build. Like the thought of the Blue Metal Flake ! ! ! A TV show over here called Muscle Car is doing a altered wheel base '64 Comet. The crowning touch is the wild and extravagant paint job they did on it. They used pearls and metal flake. One wild ride when it is done.

Coming together real nice now Langy. The colour will be Great. There is a Willy's down here in Oz painted in a similar colour with Gold Leaf signage..... Looks Killa.

I know the australian built willys are different but this car looks more like a willys nose on a another make of body. Many differences from the firewall back.

 

It is a Aussie body made by Holden.

 

The last few evenings have been spent making up some fenderwell headers, these curve up and over to clear my side steering draglink, tube is 2 inch stainless 316L primaries, unfortunately i couldn't find any stainless collectors at a sensible price so i've used some mild steel ones from Summit Racing.








Some 1/4" plate was spun in the lathe to make the quick release caps and a stud mounted in the end of the collector to take a wing nut for securing, the standard wingnut will be changed for some larger custom made ones when i get around to making them.
A gasket was cut from some Reinz boiler door gasket material.


















The primaries were started by squaring off the ends of the tube and welding to the flanges.

Langy, You sure are making some really clean looking headers ! Makes any I have ever bought look like tinker toys . . . You do really nice work.
