What he said! looking forward to see and hear the Willys! it surely will soak my pants! so great what you're doing! Carsten
Wow, just read the entire thread (over several days) Langy you're the MAN! Now it's in primer it reminds me of my part-completed (before it went to Norway) **** Lambert body on an original '38 Willys ch***is (original I-beam, disc brakes, 8" rear end, SBC/350, leafs all round. Can't wait to see the finished article run. My sixpennorth is to keep it in primer.
**** Steve, I read this and said to myself "what? mould his own? wtf is he talking about?" and went back to post #1 and yep, there it is, just plumb forgot. Helps to periodically go back to the beginning . . . always a lot of real important info crammed into the first few posts. Next time I'm in Northamptonshire I'm looking you up.
Can't take the credit for the moulding mate, I can do small bits but the main moulding was done by a friend that is a professionally laminater. I'm in Herts by the way, Watford which is a few miles north of London.
Couldn't agree more about the bodies, mine featured an overall twist on the body and one of the rear wings was complete with a (moulded in) dent just like an old steel one! Any idea when you'll be firing her up?
I don't normally like to set dates but I hope to have it all in primer in the next week, then it's tear down time to get the frame & axles etc painted, then once I have a rolling frame I will ***emble the motor which should only take a week to do, then body back on and wire up then the start her up. The motor is going on a mates dyno before it goes in so should be plug & play. I don't have any carbs at the moment but have got a lead on a pair of 600 edelbrocks that are presently on a blown motor in SoCal, hopefully the deal will happen.
Yep they sure were poor mouldings, I helped a friend do one about 20 years ago and to get the hood to fit we had to cut it into 6 bits and regl*** back together, probably the worst gl*** body I've ever encountered, I won't mention the doors as they looked like they come off another make of car !!!
Not much progress but it's nearly all grey primer now, just one front fender left to do. The doors are currently at the Bigbossman's place where he is slaving over a hot sign writing brush applying the door lettering in gold leaf, might get them back next week, I'm quite excited to see how they look. I did get to sort out a small problem at the bottom of the hood sides, had to make a small panel to fill the gap, not sure how this is fitted on a steel Willys so I just gl***ed it to the wing, looks better now.
Cheers Eric. Even though I say it myself it's looking very tough. Yours is progressing nicely. Sent from my iPhone using TJJ app
We loaded up the car with a pair of old curtains and several sheets so we didn't scratch the doors and set off for Leicester to see the Bigbossman, signwriter extrodinaire & champion cake eater On the way we swung by Krispy Kremes to pick up a sackfull of doughnuts as the Bigbossman will do anything for doughnuts I think we may of interupted something as the Bigbossman had his bedroom attire on We had a quick looksee at the doors while Miss Whiplash (Mandy) got the kettle on Wow they look fantastic !!! I came up with a humorous idea and the Bigbossman did the rest, Lettering is done in 23,5 carat gold leaf, the rest is all old school sign writing. By now the kettle was well boiled and already the Bigbossman was tucking into the doughnuts, One in each hand was a bit greedy i thought Managed to get them home without a scratch, here are the pics, Its virtually impossible to show how the gold leaf pops in a pic but its certainly bright !!!, unfortunately I can't fit them until wednesday as the hinges are at the chrome shop, Needless to say i'm over the moon with them and can't say thank you enough to the Bigbossman who has done a 1st cl*** job, Thanks Ian. for looking.
Wow, Steve, you guys are a bunch of funny people, had a good laugh! Your doors look unbelievable! Congrats! Carsten
That brought a tear to my eyes, those are my favorite donoughts of all time and my favorite choices and they closed all the Krispy Kremes in NY. But the doors cam out great too!
When i left the Bigbossmans place there was about 8 donuts left, He just txt me to say they was all gone !!! He is indeed the Champion donut eater !!!
