The "every other leaf" removal thing did indeed soften the ride on mine. It's still no Cadi or Lincoln but at least it doesn't jar the fillings out of my teeth. Much nicer.

Due to the broken spring eye, I ended up ordering new springs for the truck. I was able to order the 8 leaf setup instead of the 10, so hopefully a smoother ride.:D

A 55 what ? On this forum that usually means a Chevy same as 32 means Ford. I have two 55s both are metal drums for cleaning traditional parts. Previously mentioned it falls in the correct year for the forum and its source of power is larger than stock and an upgrade from stock. I'm sure he's not drag racing with hos set up however I bet it scoots on pretty good. Ok back to the scheduled event.:D

Wow, that was fast. Springs came today.

Like old champagne, my old springs are flat.

Just need my hardware to install them.

Cool truck! I have a 55 Willys Utility Wagon that I bought for $700 and drove for a while until the 170 Stude engine gave up. These rigs got abused in their day and everything is worn out and then some. The only original parts left in the running gear are the gears in the transfer case. Frame was bent and broke, welded and broke again. The only way to get good springs is to buy them, the originals are usually broken or flat.

I am starting a restoration on a 53 Willys Pickup next week for a friend. Nice truck but a lot of work ahead for me. Jim Ford (55willys)

    Really?
Looks pretty traditional to me. Hell- he's even making other parts fit his application instead of building a 1-800 car.
Perhaps if he swapped in a bagged S10 ch***is, it would better meet your high traditional standards.

Oh- look at your screen name. How fitting.

To the OP- keep on posting- looks great from here!!!

What is a trad rod? What is wrong with a 50s willys pick up does the 4 wheel drive scare you. Check out my 61 Zephyr thread is that trad?:D

I installed the Autometer to see just what it does on the freeway, since I have an overdriven trans waiting to be installed. I'm guess it'll make about a 500 rpm difference. Thanks to the poster that asked about the BW overdrive on his Studebaker and the one that posted the video of it in action.

I found this when my dad p***ed away and we were cleaning out the house. This was in 2001 and was looking for the right vehicle to put it in. Here's to you dad!

I can't even imagine how old it is as my parents hadn't been to Hawaii in a long time.

Good to see the thread on here as well. I didn't dare to add my 48 Willys truck build to this forum though. ;)

I have to comment so I can find this thread easily in the future. I love your truck. A friend of mine has one that never seems to rate a resto. I used it to move into the first house I bought years ago.

Well, got all the parts for the front end. Time to press out the existing bushings.

Now for the new bronze pivot bushing.

    What a great setting.

I just got a flyer announcing the Fall Midwest Willys Reunion in Jefferson City Missouri Sept. 6-8. It is always a nice show and swap meet. Every year, a few of us preceed the Willys show by going on a trail ride in the woods. Since not every Jeep guy actualy enjoys using 4WD and because, like the HAMB, diversity is great; we open the trail ride to any old trucks.

So, with that, I finally got the pictures loaded today. Met the gentleman that owns this '40 pickup. Said his grandfather bought it new.

The truck had to do a few errands. The stumbling was still
there, so taking it easy and avoiding any large hills got the job done. But on
the way to dropping off some lumber, the AMP light came on and the AMP
meter wasn't showing a charge. A quick check with the voltmeter I had showed I
was getting up to 14v, hmm. Maybe under a load, it wasn't keeping up? Anyway, it
did the errand I needed it for that day. Friday, I removed the alternator, belt
and checked the fuel filter in the carburetor inlet, looked clean and I recall
replacing it once already. Tried to blow through it and found a lot of
resistance, I think that's the problem. Went down to the
O'Reilly's and had them check out the alternator and it p***ed with flying
colors. So, new belt, fuel filter (WIX) and alternator with clean bill of health
in hand, I re***embled everything and it's running well. The AMP light is still
on and will have to address that, but it was able to make a dump run yesterday
without a hitch. People at the dump site were thrilled to see a Willys there
    too.
