    Ha ha, will do Gary!

So my daughter and I went to Bob's tonight. You remember my daughter? The one in flip flops? She's really getting into old cars!

Bob hasn't been feeling well the past week, down with a sinus infection so he apologized for not getting much done. No worries, what HAS been accomplished is amazing!

Tonight Jessica and I started removing all of the seam sealer from the turtle deck. What a huge pain that ass! Razor blades, picks, needle nose pliers, sand paper, anything we thought might help...

    Goofing around...

Used a wire brush on a grinder to finish off the edges.

    Then we pulled the dash...

And oh yeah, the wife called and told me to look outside while we were working and this is what greeted us...

Whoops, maximum pictures. Check next post please

Looking good. I hope in a few years my daughter will be able to help me out in the shop (and want to too) she is only 2 now but loves climbing in the old cars we have out there her eyes just light up. Between me wanting her to be a car girl and her mom wanting her to be a girly girl she won't have any time to be what she wants to be haha. Good luck with the paint and primer work that's coming up.

  4. Yes love to hear that "P" word means it's getting close.

  5. I'm of the opinion that every group of shots you post should always include a peek-a-boo or a selfie of your gals... ;)

    Thanks fellas!

Rezula, you'll both win and have a girly girl who likes to work on cars! Don't give up brother!

Curt, paint for the frame only so far. Body will be a little ways out, but once the frame, engine and chassis pieces are painted things really start moving along! Can't friggin' wait!

Nitrobrother, I'll see what I can do. I'm pretty proud of them all!

On an unrelated note I'm still making headway on my '50 Shoebox. Just about ready to fire it up for the first time! I also found a fairly nice set of original 16" Hollywood Flipper caps for it!

  7. Good to see progress on both the T and the Shoebox. Always nice to see the girls helping, wish I could get my nieces to do some work with me but seems all they're good for is posing and backing up dragsters. lol Looks great! Keep it up! :)

    Nice sunset too!

Thanks man. As far as backup girls go I think they do that in spades. They're probably good at polishing too as your stuff always looks top notch! Your A Tudor has come out absolutely PERFECT!

Just a small update, I ran up to Bob's this afternoon to grab some pics in primer. We discussed tinting the primer but ultimately decided against it. The black primer is on, will get sanded tomorrow, one more coat of black, then some color! Woo hoo!

  9. WOW! that frame is excellent/Beautiful! Nice job!

  10. Good job. I like what you are doing. My 27 body is a bit rougher than yours but I can't bring myself to take it all apart and fix it.....guess it will stay in primer for awhile longer.

26 T Ford RPU likes this.
  11. Great milestone Eric, the finish on that is superb. You will have a rolling chassis in no time. COOL !! JW :)

Great thread, the cars you posted for influence are awesome. You have good direction and it is great that you get to do some work on it with your daughter, you can't buy experiences like that.

Thanks Tim, but you know I can't take credit for it, it's all Bob's doing. Well, actually, I DID do a little grinding and sanding on it... :D

I know exactly what you mean. Once a car is together, running, driving and especially reliable, it's near IMPOSSIBLE for me to tear it apart for a rebuild.

When I built my A Tudor I had the fenders and running boards painted and finished but was having so much fun driving it that I never got around to putting them on. I sold the car minus those pieces, the new owner sold it, and the third owner wanted to meet me. When he came down I said "Hey, do you like fenders and running boards, because I've got a DEAL for you!" He returned three weeks later and we put it all together on a Saturday/Sunday for him. Great weekend and I FINALLY got to see my car finished!

Thanks J-dub! Can't wait to see it in COLOR!!! WOO HOO!!! Going WAY back in this thread some may remember that my wife wanted it flat black with red wheels. I was hesitant to show her these pics, but did. Then she started messing with me saying she wanted to change the color again... UGH she knows how to stress me out! I told her to get busy selling clothes on her online boutique because she'd need to come up with $1000 for more paint. She's a funny one!

Thanks man, glad you share the same vision on inspiration! My kids are great! About 1/2 of them dig cars and 1/2 could care less. The same daughter came out to the garage last night while I was doing a brake job on my brother in law's pickup. She started teaching HIM about drums... LOL.

My REAL car nut is my son who's 14 but lives with his mother 300 miles away. When he's here all he wants to do is work on cars with me. Really sucks he's so far away but I do get to spend time with him frequently. Obviously not enough!

    Thanks fellas.

JW, yes, it'll get a heater. I grabbed a cool old Pontiac heater a few years ago. It has doors to direct the air to keep the wife's feet warm so the car will be comfortable (kind of) year round. Where we live it's much like Las Vegas or Phoenix weather. With a set of leathers you can ride a motorcycle year round.

Before I give too many details on the paint I should start off with what I told the wife about it. I ran up to Bob's this evening to take a look at the painted frame. Taking photos to bring home the flash decided to go off. The end result was FANTASTIC... for messing with my wife!

You may recall when we were choosing paint that we really like the dark cranberry color, but it had just a hint of pink/purple to it that she was really concerned about. She likes pink, she likes purple, she just knows they don't belong on a hot rod!

    The following messages ensued...

So here are the pictures I took tonight.

The actual color is somewhere between these first two pictures. Tried to get a few shots with different settings to capture it just right...

Of course here's the pink/purple picture that I may never live down... SO WORTH IT!

It's beautiful work! There are a few small nibs here and there but the overall finish is incredible! It's actually nice enough that I don't think we'll bother cutting and buffing it!

  24. That was funny. Did you get a smack up-side your head when you got home? "Don't ever do that again!" :D

No, but I got a welcome home kiss immediately followed by "You're still an asshole!"

I take that as a compliment!

I do too, but not for this car. It'd look GREAT on a Riviera or Impala though!

Amazing what someone with talent and good materials can do versus a hack like me with expensive ass paint in a spray can, LOL!

Indeed we are! My daughter and I will be back up in a few days to do some more labor.

The chassis components will be getting an equally gorgeous coat of black paint, the engine and trans the same cranberry, then all assembled. Body work will start soon!

    SEMA tomorrow morning!
