Can you just put new kits in those cylinders? If they aren't pitted, that is the best way to go. The repro cylinders are not made correctly, and frequently leak because the inlet hole is too close to the inner cup.

Just give them a quick zip with a wheel cylinder hone, and pop some new cups and outer boots from the parts store on them. The rubber stuff is common sizes from their parts bins.

Thar is great seeing the gap on the trunk lid so consistent, I'm confident he will have all of the gaps up to those standards when he gets it done. Spring is coming, hope he can get it done so you and the wife can enjoy it a bunch this summer.:)

    Thanks fellas!

Alchemy, I'm a little embarrassed I didn't consider rebuilding the wheel cylinders. That said, I've never done it but I'm willing to learn. What's involved? Can't imagine its too difficult.

It's not really that hard a job as long as the cylinder isn't rusted or pitted. If you ever need to bring something old and obscure (like a hydro-vac for an old International that had a crack in it) "back from the dead" these guys can fix almost anything and have done great work on everything I have taken them. http://www.karpspowerbrake.com/

If they are rusty, blast them clean first. Somebody you know has got to have a blasting cabinet.

Then buy a wheel cylinder hone at the parts store and chuck it in your drill. Put the hone stones in the cylinder and run it til there is a nice even surface. If there is no rust it won't take long.

Clean them all over with a spray can of brake cleaner, then dry them off. Lube the inside a little with some brake fluid. The stores sell some other types of lube made especially for insides of brake cylinders, but brake fluid works fine.

Then install the rubber cups and metal pistons into the cylinder making sure the cups don't get cut or folded. If there is a spring inside the cylinder, or tin cup expanders, make sure to put them in before the second cup and piston. Only press the cups down into the cylinders far enough to snap the outer rubber covers on. If you push them in too far the fluid from the line will leak past the lip of he cup and run out the ends.

I'd never tried the EZ Bleeders until my last project, but I've found I really like them. Get a set of EZ Bleeders for the cylinders. They were also available at my local parts store. Didn't cost much and made the job way easier.

    That's it.

Thanks for the reminder Jer! I talked to Bob on the phone yesterday, all major bodywork is complete, he's just finishing up a few small details. The weather here has been amazing, like 60's every day for the past month. I think winter hit the week before Christmas and it's gone, LOL. Bob's trying to decide if he's going to put the body in primer or work the doors first, depending on the weather the next few weeks.

I haven't been up there since I picked up @mctim64 's roadster body... what's that been, two weeks? I'd go up this weekend and do more work, but we have family in town and they all want to go ride the dunes in the nice weather so it looks like 4 wheelin' weekend here.

    More to come, I promise!

LMAO, don't know man. I was born in '71 so I'm no help. I know few good things came out of the '70's. Hair, fashion, music, cars all kind of sucked. I like to think I'm one of the good things, but I'm not to sure.

That only means you are older then me! Age is jet a number.

Being old comes down to, do you feel old? Do you bitch and moan about the hoodlums of today, all day long? And do you look at your car and think "best not drive it, maybe I not make it back" or "no need to change thee tire, I might not live that long".
If you don't feel like that, you are not that old after all! Enjoy life, cars and company of family.

Although growing old is a steep price to pay for growing up, all ain't lost yet. The alternative is still fare worth. Remember to smile. [emoji39][emoji41][emoji2][emoji111]️

Growing old is mandatory...Growing UP is optional. I was 25 in '71. Have some achy parts, but still think I'm young and still playing with hotrods. o_O

Hey Whiplash Mark. Thanks for the kind words. Sorry I have not been on here for a while and just seen this. Yes, I lost some leg room but hey, I am a little dude. Probably not 6" but around 3 to 4 counting upholstery, foam and back board. I used 2" foam. 3" was to much. If you can sit back as far as you can it will sure help in these little roadsters. But I like old school looks. Sorry Eric for stealing your thread. Yours is coming along nicely and cant wait to see the final look. Did you make it to the GNRS this last January? Happy New Year by the way. Man, it sucks getting old. Mark.

Guys, no apologies for interjecting please! The interaction and conversation here is what makes a good build thread. Please, please, please, feel free to ask questions and converse!

Yes Mark, we made GNRS again. We took a '27 roadster body down for Timmy McMaster and brought back a LS for my daily driver. Thanks again to Tim as well as Bryan for the help!

The maroon one about a year ago Jeremy? If that's the one you're referring to it was a '47/48. Had the cash and planned on flipping it, but was too busy ramping up for the new house. I really didn't have room for it, and didn't have time to run it down to Pomona, but I'm pretty sure I could have made someone a great deal and pocketed some cash too. But.... priorities, ya know?

Wife told me to get it while we were there but we were leaving for Cancun in a few days. Had no time to go get it 200+ miles home (driving her Charger) and nowhere to store it. Another will come along soon enough, but I'm not adopting any more strays until the shop and pool are done, LOL.

The only '41 I recall discussing here was my Tudor Sedan. All original with one lacquer repaint likely in the 60's. Saggy springs made it look lowered, a tired but good running flatty, some steelies with caps n' rings and pair of Smithy's mufflers. Sold it to a retired fire fighter in LA who bored and stroked the engine and topped it with a bunch of Navarro goodies.

Growing up is what kids do, that's what people do from age 0-20, if you survive that you are allowed grow old, and before this get to philosophical, I think daddio is stalling us!
