Don, you've never steered me wrong.

First thing guys, once I get the car on the road I'll NEVER get around to tearing it down for a repaint.

Second, I really don't think it'll add THAT much time or money to the build.

I know Victoria wants the car on the road ASAP, but I'd rather do it right than fast. I'll have to talk to her and see what she wants to do.

    Thanks for the input fellas.

I'm gonna vote to strip it and properly repair anything that was hidden.

Just tell your wife there is nothing better than a naked body because you can see what you are getting :D

Once the paint is on you will rest easier that you won't get a surprise later on.

  4. Totally agree with the above !!
Also, if ya mouse it, ya just wasted the time and materials.
Tell Victoria, ya wanna do it right, she'll just have 2 wait.
Hell you waited 7 - 8 years to drive yer A-Bone didn't ya?
If I was closer I'd have that body done and painted in a week.

  5. nother vote for doin it right, after all you don't want to hear her tell ya later "why didn't ya do it right!"............ when momma's happy everything is good!, when momma's not happy nobody's happy.........

  6. I say strip it. Why do all that work and half ass the finish. It's only time and these projects take enough of that stuff anyway.

OKAY FINE! YOU GUYS WIN! :D

And every one of you is right. Although I suspect what's under that ugly yellow paint is fine, if I get 1 (or 10, or 100, 10,000) miles down the road and have issues I'm going to be SICK.

Don, jump in the truck and come play, brother... you could be here in about 20 hours! You'll LOVE the new house! A little smaller but a GORGEOUS neighborhood and a 1200 square foot garage!

  8. Hey! I feel "dead in the water" because of painters. Why should you get done so quick! :p

You'll feel better in the end anyway. Trust me. ;)

Thanks Don. Hope we make LARS but I'm not expecting we will. Going to be in Monterey Bay all next week and Florida the end of June. Business has been booming recently and every day away from the office is a day with less productivity. Dunno, maybe we can swing a Saturday/Sunday thing.

Bob will do the body justice though. He's turned out some really nice stuff!

Again, thanks to everyone for their input. She agrees it needs to be "done right", just need to convince her it'll be worth the wait.

Bob sent a few pictures yesterday of the rear panhard bar and mount... enjoy!

Back from 11 days of vacation and one day at a funeral.

While in Monterey Bay on Friday I received very sad news. My dear friend and flathead guru Dave Watson passed away from a massive heart attack. (A few pages back I posted pics of Dave helping me put the flatty back in my Shoebox.)

Dave was a hardcore hot rodder. With a lifetime list of cars, his current stable was comprised of two Model A's, a '47 Ford Club Coupe, a '66 Mustang and a '53 F100. Always willing to lend a hand ANYTIME, he was the kind of friend you could never possibly repay, and you knew it.

    RIP my friend. :)

Needless to say, after some 2500 miles of driving Victoria and I jumped in the truck and did another 500 round trip Monday for the funeral. Dave's family is wonderful, and so very kind. They've lost a huge part of themselves and our hearts are with them! Dave was a big part of our family too.

Moving along in a more somber tone I got back up to Bob's yesterday. He's working away, knocking things off if the list.

The chassis is now broken down...

    1370494570821.jpg

And all of the welding is complete...

Several small details like heater hose brackets have been added. Bob made these on his mill...

This weekend will entail grinding the welds flat and smoothing out detail areas. Next weekend we will media blast (wet blasting) the chassis and suspension parts, skim coat everything and prep for paint.

And thanks to you all for telling me what I already knew, we're taking the body down to bare steel and starting fresh. I checked it out REAL carefully yesterday and besides the areas previously mentioned this thing looks and feels SOLID inside and out. I'd rather do it now and have an EVEN BETTER finished product. Bob will do all of the body and paint too.

The only area I'm concerned about is where the firewall meets the cowl. Currently its all molded in and its probable that I'll have to mold it all in again. Don't really care for that "look" but it'll be a very minor distraction. Besides, some people might think its fiberglass! LMAO

Thanks Retro, he was a great man.

I'll pass your kind words about the chassis along to Bob, he's the best fabricator I know, and a guy who can literally build an entire car, including the engine, paint and upholstery.

Actually, I don't need to pass it along, you told him yourself! He's not a member here but does follow this thread.

And I've got to tell you, your Make-A-Wish idea is inspiring me to do something for cancer patients and their families, I just don't know what yet. I lost my dad 18 months ago to cancer. Besides my sweet wife, he was my best friend. I feel like there is SOMETHING I can do to help, I just don't know what... yet.

  28. I lost my Dad also to Cancer, that was 30 Years ago. He never got to enjoy his grandchildren.
As to a charity, there are so many worthy charity's, not only in need of money, but just as important volunteers. Make a Wish has been very good to work with! Do you have a Childrens Hospital or a Ronald MacDonald House where families stay in your area?
When you do decide Eric, you'll find that by giving back & helping you'l receive so much more in return!

  29. Sorry about your friend Eric.

  30. I saw the pic you posted on instagram.
    Too many good people dying.
    Stay strong
