Still need help to ID the mystery backing plate in the thread I put on at 9:55 PM yesterday (Tuesday) Someone must know what it is from. Thanks Again Dave
I had a similar problem with my 8" - the backing plates were odd ball. I ended up getting some off a mustang 8" and drilling the holes to fit the flange on the axle. Is the flange on the axle flush with the end of the housing or does the alxe stick past and make a lip? I have some extra backing plates if you need them. Good luck with your problem http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28253&highlight=plate
There are two backing for a 8" the early 6 cyl has a 8" with small tubes that narrow down where the u bolts go and the axles have 4 bolts and they have a smoll bearing thet is smaller than a small bearing big ford the other 8" is the one that comes out of a mustang ,granada bronco small bearing it is the most common it uses a rw207 wheel bearing the the brake off set on the rw207 one is 2 1/2" the weird one is 2' nothing will fit between the two the good one will have a 3 1/4 by 1 1/8 u joint the bad one has a 3 1/4 by 1 1/16 joint i know i have got you mealy messed up now but i hope this helps Good luck Clay
Like I said in the other post - could be a Mustang II 8 inch. There is a Mustang II forum here, http://forums.stangnet.com/forumdisplay.php?f=142 Why don't you post your measurements on there and see if anyone can confirm them.
