does anyone know much about the auto manufacture 'rockne' it was an elleged division of studibaker in the early 30s. i have a 3 window coupe and it looks 100% like the rockne sedans of that era but i cant find any pics of a coupe to be sure. any pics or leads would be greatly appreciated
One of Knute Rockne's former players became the Commercial vehicles sales manager at the Studebaker Plant and talked Erskin the president of Studebaker to hire Rockne to provide talks to his employees. One thing led to another and The ties between Studebaker and Notre Dame football grew, think company season tickets corporate hospitality boosters etc. The Rockne car line was born of the collaboration. Studebaker also made a car know as the Erskin named after the aforementioned president. The national Studebaker museum has a pretty comprehensive exhibit of Rockne, the man, the coach, the car.
Rockne's were only made 2 years by Studebaker - they had coupes and sedans. They were designed as a lower priced offering from Stude along with the Erskine. Best info source - http://www.theantiquestudebakerclub.com/rockne/rockne.htm contact Larry Tholen who's putting together a registry. He knows where there are parts and has the history of the Rockne.
sweet thanx for the help, now i am sure a rockne coupe is what i have. does anyone know if the doors from a 2door and the 3 window coupe are interchangable? i have the shell of a 3 window, no ch***is hood fenders, grill, ect,but the drivers door is very rough. the outer skin is mostly missing and the inner structure is badly bent and beet. also i could use some help finding a windshield frame and deck lid. anyone got parts?
are these cars sought after are these cars sought after? too rare to rod? would it be more logical to sell this shell to a rockne enthusiast and build an early ford, the likes of which i am familliar with and can find parts for? i mean, is there a market for this car before i cut it up?
