I found this site while trying to find info on a motor I have sittin in my garage. My dad gave my husband this motor to put in his '77 f-250 flatbed 'cause dad wasn't using it anymore he told us it was a 352 interceptor, all is good, but now my husband has a 1966 ford custom cab pickup. Cody decided to put the interceptor into the '66. He knew he had to do some tweeking 'cause one is a car motor and the other a truck but the more we got to lookin the more confusing things became. The engine is not labeled 352 anywhere, the block casting number is B9AE6015B which shows us it is a '58 352. Its also been bored out, Cody is tring to get the tools he needs to find out what the bore is. Also, the rockers and pistons are label EDD which suggests its an Edsel engine. Cody thinks its a 361 Edsel with a 352 block, I'm doubtful. Hopefully we'll know soon.

ok so we measured the bore size and found that we have a 352 that measures 4.23 which makes it a 427 bore. It has a 352 crankshaft in it. We haven't measured the stroke yet 'cause its in pieces on the garage floor but we plan to......someday. Cody has decided to keep the hot rod engine and sell the 1966 FT that came out of the old Ford truck. He thinks it would make a good stroker block project for someone 'cause its a standard bore. So we'll have that engine for sell soon. Gotta make sure he can put the pieces back to the correct block..hehe

Look on the back of the block in the bell housing area and see if it is cast 427. IIRC the 427, 390 and 352 share strokes but had different bores.

Ok we figured it out, I hope. Cody got to talk'n with a guy and they've decided that was we have is a 1958 410 Edsel. Cody is excited. Apperently they were only built during the year. So he's gonna hunt down the parts needed and put this 410 into the 1966 ford pickup. Now we have the 1966 352 that came out of the pickup for sale. It needs overhualed but the major parts are good. 410's were also available in Mercs in the later 60's......around '66, '67 and or '68.

Should have plenty of torque.

If the bore is 4.230 then it is a 427 block, no exceptions..can't bore anything FE to that size..It could have the 352 crank [393 cube] but nothing would be stock, would have to have special pistons or rods...

Wrong. It can ony be a 1959 332 or 1959-1960 352.

Not many 1958 motors were built with blocks cast in 1959 either.

BTW,the MEL motors were different than the FE`s. And they would not share the same casting numbers.

A 410 MEL and a 410 FE only share the displacement.

The original Edsel 361 Cube engine was labled as an Edsel 410 due to 410 Ft Lb of torque Actually it was a 352. 4.00 bore and 3.5 stroke. I've got one in my shop.
The Merc 410 CI engine was in 66-67 and thad a 428 crank (3.98" stroke) on a 4.05 bore. The normal 360-390-427 have a 3.78 stroke. The 352 has a 3.50 stroke with a 4.00 bore. The 360CI engine is a 3.5 stroke and a 4.05 bore.

Way to many combinations but ford wanted to standardize on the 4.05 bore.

wow, this circus ride just keeps gettin better...We took the info ya'll gave us, both here and by phone, and agree that its probably not a 410, which is kinda a bummer on the whole unique concept and yet a reliefe on the finding parts for unique. We agree the year is wrong, the bore is wrong, plus some other stuff. We're just gonna go with the concept that its a 352 with odd parts. Cody is buying a rebuild kit today so we can get it in the truck and running again. Wish us luck!

If it is an FE series, the only engine you could have is a 427 with the 4.23" bore. In which case, good for you, jackpot. Now it is entirely possible (but not likely) that some one put in a 352 crank at some point in time. Measure the stroke to be sure. If it is a 427, you will see a 3.78" stroke. 3.5" for the 352 crank.

The other option is a 410 c.i. MEL. They had a standard 4.20" bore, and this one could easily be bored 0.030" over for the 4.23" measurement. MEL's are completely different than FE's, and the 410 was a one year wonder (1958) making it fairly rare.

Either way, chances are a 352 rebuild kit is not going to work for you.

ok, so after 7 hours of info back and forth between 4 car guys, 2 at our parts store and 2 at store they called they finally came to an agreement. When you put the part ids together and the fact that it's a 352 block with a 4.05 bore size, they've decided that we have a 1959 Edsel 361 Super. Not a special engine but a rare engine. We got the kit ordered and Cody is busy putt'n it back together. Hopefully, no more surprises...but ya never know!

Ok, so the 361 is runn'n great! Cody smiles big everytime he gets into the pedal and hears that thing roar. Heres the new problem. We put the engine into a 1966 Ford f-250 camper special and were haveing problems with the brake lights. Apprently ford used a relay of sorts on the camper special. Cody found another relay but he's not getting full power to all the wires that should have ampage. Does anyone know where we can find wiring diagrams that show the camper special wiring? We've found them for the pickups without the relay but that doesn't help us any? Thanks for any suggestions.

The 361 Edsel is called "E400" and the same bore and stroke as a 68-76 360 pickup engine except with a bit better heads and higher compression ratio. You can use 360 pistons to lower compression (a bunch).

Well, did it have flat chambered heads on it like the MEL's and the Chevy "W" engines have? If so, it is a MEL.

MEL's have a 10 degree deck angle in the block and the Chevy "W"'s, a 16 degree angle if I remember right..

PS., Ford made 332, 352, 360/361, 390/391. 406, 410, 427, and 428 FE engines and 383, 410, 430, 462, and big truck 534 MEL engines.

The bore changed from 4.23 to 4.05? It's not hard to tell an FE from a MEL, the MEL has the fuel pump mounted high on the timing cover and the FE has it down low where most V8 engines have it.

lol..we were quesstamating the first time. Cody didn't have the correct tools to measure with but we were finally able to find some. The truck runs great. Cody byp***ed the brake light relay for now so that he can drive it while we try to find a diagram showing us the wiring paths. He thinks its the blinker switch but would like a schematic before he goes tearing stuff apart again.

The 1958 EDSEL was built on two platforms (four different models), one FORD and the other MERC. The FORD based EDSEL received the FE 361 (4.05 x 3.50) (also described as the E-400- torque rating) and the MERC based EDSEL the new MEL 410 ([FONT=&quot]4.20 x 3.70[/FONT]) (also described as the E-475- torque rating).
