I clicked on this, hoping the mystery had been solved. A rare HAMB "stumper" apparently.

  5. I found an image of the E&S heads but they are cast with horizontal fins like the others. I only found one set of Horton heads that had vertical fins, but they went from top to bottom.....Rare as in red in the middle and bloody.....SOOOO many companies made heads for the flathead......

  6. Fentons perhaps.

Talking about one off Flathead V8 stuff the Circle Track guys around here use to forge their own intakes; I had a few interesting ones till I sold them on evil-Bay about 10 years ago.
One design was a 2 piece open plenum that you could change out the top for diff Carb configurations I remember a single 2V / 2-2V, when 4 barrels 1st came out in the early 50’s the did-up a single 4 barrel.
… Central NY in the late 40’s thru the 50’s had more Foundries then you could shake a stick at; and an Air Force Base were High-Po Engine builders got their Aviation Fuel. They ran an ear popping compression so high they had to stump the heads to keep them from splitting; I can still recall that thumping in my chest as they went roundy round; and of course nothing sounds as good as a Flathead V8.

  8. Ok guys, I showed the picture of the head to a very well informed Ford man that I know. He collects and works on all the neat stuff and has traveled every where and has seen the heads in question.

He said that the brand might have been, ORD.
There were two types made. One was half finned like the one shown and the other was full finned. I will see what other details I can get. He said the patterns and casting were not for the beginers for sure!

Just to keep this thread alive in hopes someone will come along and say "OK, they're XXX's." A couple of points about them. The manifold comes into play on this. This isn't a tall I've seen before, either. It's cast in the style of a Weiand or early Edelbrock Regular. Tubes with a flange on top. It appears to be a bolt on top, feeding a common single plane plenum. That eliminates Thickstun and Tattersfield. They knew better. The carbs are 94 style. The fuel pump's blocked off. Note that in sharp contrast to everything else, the block off is crude. Electric pump? Everything points to 1946-1948 for me. The heads are gorgeous. They're obviously cast with the idea of production in mind with the work that's gone into the impossible to read logo. Also, way too much work machining the fins. With modern casting techniques, it would still be hard to cast fins with such a narrow gap between them. The location of the upper plugs hits me a bizarre. It could be that it was discovered that it ran stronger with the lower plugs only. My guess would be that it was a one off product. With the machining required on the fins, even if more than one pair were cast, I doubt that that work would have been done on others without testing a set first. It may just end up being a stumper.

  14. Did anyone ever determine what these heads were????
