Do a 3 bar rear suspension....with the 3rd/upper bar going down the driveshaft tunnel.....no need for short bars!
We have been wrapping up our 40 Merc vert project that we just finished putting a 390 Caddy motor in We are about to start working on the track nose. I scored a nice roadster dash and a better driver door. Rear suspension plans now include 2 short arms going forward, a torque arm off the center forward towards the trans (since it will be open drive) and a panhard bar. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
The Alfa is quite popular with those building repop Watson Indy roadsters when the budget won't allow for an offie.
Speedwrench........thats very interesting info..........and heres me in 1978 thinking that I was the original tight arse as there was no way even then I could afford the real thing and the Alfa was the closest I could find........lol.........thanks...........andyd
I see this car on Facebook marketplace using the same pictures from this thread. No Alfa engine in it.
Great build. I'd keep the moon discs - no need to reinvent the wheel...... Paint it red and add a little Alfa cloverleaf emblem. It comes from the 1920s when Enzo Ferrari was their factory test/race driver and later team manager. If the Alfa proves to be a problem to install you could keep it all Ford with a Lotus twin cam. It's basically a traditional banger type head swap onto the 1600 cc Ford engine. Toyota built a knock off called the 2TG. They were cheap in the 80s - about $500 with a 5 speed. I stuck one in my Pinto wagon.
It certainly has the look. What I noticed was the V8-60 tube axle. Like I said in the thread about those axles, Ford must have made a lot more of them than we all think. How many current projects have 1? And how many times have we looked at old pictures and seen them, on race cars, hot rods, you name it? I certainly wouldn't say no to this one if it was offered to me... but where'd I put it?
That very well may have been the work of Victor Yordy (RIP), a wizard craftsman. https://www.grenoblefuneralhome.com/obituaries/Victor-Yordy
Love this thread, so far, I have similar asperations Of building a track T with the nose and a belly pan. A tribute to the local C.F.A. group " WWII TBM air craft" By the name... Ghost squadron. Grand Junction Co. A few pictures as my starting point.
