MYTH BUSTED!!!! Concours d'Elegance

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by The37Kid, Jun 6, 2010.

  1. I had been hearing about the Concours d'Elegance show in my area for sometime. I live next to a few big money towns and some of the gents have some heavy hitting goodies. Always wanted to check it out... heard lots of stories.
My friend Ray C*** went as a spectator a year ago and was then invited with his early custom he built. He was so honered, and blown away that they let his car on the cource. He mentioned he new a punk kid building an old hot rod with old parts and they said it sounded interesting.
Ray pushed me to contact them... so I did for Ray, I wanted to check it out for years now and was happy parking outside. I did email the peoples incharge, but I never got a responce. No worries... don't like car shows anyway.
So the day came, and my lady and I hopped in and drove to the show... looked like heavy rain that day, but we charged on. Things seemed light due to the wheather. I pulled the old punk rock act like I belong here... and drove right onto their field, parked, jumped out, and started walking.
The week before was the Jalopy Showdown, so we still had a little mud that came along for the ride. When I returned to the car, everyone was gathered at my car... and all super happy. Most said it was there favorite car. We laughed...
What a blast we had, but honestly... it was the ride home with the thunder overhead and the large rain drops hitting us in the face due to no windscreen that made us so happy. Priceless...

No, Highlander does beautiful work for me, but doesn't work for me. I work so I can pay him!

He did such a good job we won another Hagerty Youth Judging award. Kids sure like my car collection. We were at the Krasl Art Center Concours in St. Joseph, MI, this weekend. Highlander made my car so smooth that none of the million of so bugs I killed on the way there stuck. They careened off the front of the hood and splattered on my windshield.

I have been several times to the concours in Pebble Beach and actually worked it one year when I was younger just for the love of cars. I plan on attending this year at pebble and tomorrow is the concours on rodeo drive in Beverly hills I'll be attending for the first time.

Pebble beach concours is a bunch of high rollers.m used to look at the woman's wedding rings and the diamonds were as big as ice cubes. Plus it's $200 to get in.

  9. Well it's only taken me two years to get back to you on this but hey! Better late than never. Right?

Seems to be a 1955 Chevrolet Biscayne XP-37

^^^^^^^^^^ Isn't that the car that was found cut in half in a junk yard? I know I've seen that front clip in a photo some were. Thanks for bringing this post back from the ba*****t, helps rekindle Pebble Beach daydreams, now that I've missed my first ever LARS the Pebble Beach "Bucket List"dreams start. Bob

Yes, that's one of the numerous cars that Joe Bortz bought from Warhoop's s**** yard, just up the street from GM Tech Center. They were supposed to crush them, but stashed them, instead.

There were no Mark II convertibles made for Edsel Ford's wife. That's just another myth. None of them came out of the factory as convertibles.

There was a white car that came down the ***embly line as a coupe and sent to Derham to be made into a convertible show car. It debuted at the Texas State Fair in October of 1956. When it came off the show car circuit it was given to William Clay Ford, head of Continental. His wife used it as a daily driver for a couple of years. It's been repainted a couple of times and is now in Boone, Iowa.

The car pictured is one of two cars made into convertibles by Hess & Eisenhardt for Ford Marketing in Chicago in late 1955. There were two roof-damaged cars that ended up in the hands of Ford Marketing and were made into dealer-demonstrators.
