Big day May 15th. The Speedway is re-opening and they will have cars, Flathead races and World Premiere of "Red Dirt Rising." www.reddirtrising.com Gates open at noon I believe.
I just happened to hear about this thru my work who happens to be a sponsor. It looks like it's going to remain open though. They have a race scheduled for October 3rd. There is more info at: www.savethespeedway.net This weekend looks like the***** though: Buck Bakers Driving School (you get to drive the track) "Legendary Flathead Ford" Racing Series Live concert by Matt Dylan Plus the movie and cruise in I am doing everything I can to try and get there.
Thanks for posting this! Glad to see that the Save the Speedway group has done some good. Wish I could make it, sounds like an excellent event!
I wanted to go but not going to be able to, my friend Dwight Cass will be there in his red 39 ford race car. IM sure my girlfriends dad will also be there since they live like 3 miles from the track. Sure wish I was going to be in town
Neat news. I don't think they will have any problems attracting shows. Hope some NASCAR modifieds can get in, too, sooner or later. Gary
I am pretty pissed I didn't go. Tried to get some dudes to but like usual nothing came of it. I'm interested to see some pics. Wondered if it was hailing out there like it was in H-Ville.
I loved the North Wilkesboro track mainly because it was Junior Johnson's stomping ground. It pissed me off when I heard Bruton Smith bought the track just to get the NASCAR racing slot for the Texas Motor Speedway. I am glad at least they are re-opening it. There is lot of super modified activity in North Carolina. I hope they can attract a following.
