I picked up this adapter recently to run on my 425 and was wondering if anyone knew what clutch fork I need to run on this? I have a couple here and they are not close to getting the full throw. Thanks, Joe
It has the typical Chevy trans pattern, as well as what looks like a stock Buick H/D 3 speed pattern. when choosing a fork, the fork needs to fit into whatever TOB you have, and the TOB face needs to match the pressure plate levers or fingers, as far as correct TOB face diameter. I don't know if you know that this was a two piece adapter/trans mount. There is a very wide 1/4" thick plate that fits between the bell and trans, and the plate has mount locations on the outer tips. If you don't have this, you must use a spacer between bell and trans. Also, the center hole in the bell is what locates the C/L of the trans to crank alignment. Your trans TOB snout or bearing retainer needs to be that diameter, or make an adapter ring, to center the trans. If you put up some pics of what you have for TOB/fork/pressure plate, and trans snout, maybe someone can help with what you need. If you are using a 5 speed, I am pretty sure the input and splines will be a bit too long for this bell...but it can be made to work .
Hey thanks for the info, I do have the steel plate that fits onto the face. I'll be using a Dearborn top loader which has the Chevy bearing cone that fits nice in the hole of the bell. I'm still collecting pieces to complete this setup.
I don't recall seeing a list of parts for adapters on hamb. We used to have a woman on here who could look it up in her old speed shop books, but she is long gone. I thought Vtwhead on here, said something about which forks for some old bells, but I'm not sure if he had a list or even what brand of bell adapters.. one thing that might help: I did a guys early Olds motor with a T5, and his repro bell came with a pivot ball that was way too short, which caused major lack of throw. Luckily I had a longer one and it was perfect, I don't know if that would help, or not ,
