    Can you put a 700r ****** onto a 401 nailhead motor?
    Do you need an adapter?
If not what is an optimal automatic ****** to run with it?

    Thanks in advance

From what I've read, you can do it with a ****** adapter and I think it takes an adapter on the crank flange to space the flywheel back. I'll see if I can dig up the article.

I'd say the optimum ****** to run with it other that a 700R4 is a SP400. With the convertor in high stall first gear is supposed to be equivilent to 5:1 gear ratio. This will allow you to run some good highway gears and still have some oomph off the line.
    Focus on this:

Agreed...I would give them the time of day!!!

In my '37 put a 700R4 behind a 401 using one of Marty's (Eelco or Northwest Speed) adapter kits back when I would even consider buying from him. After getting it all together and trying to start the engine, it sounded like the starter was going to come apart the gear mesh was so bad.

I looked at the starter/flex plate clearance and it was way off. I pulled the whole thing all apart and compaired the flex plate that came with the adapter kit against spare stock flexplates I had...the Eelco or Northwest Speed piece of **** flex plate diameter was 1/4" smaller than the stock! WTF???

There are some other adapter kits out there, just do a google search and you'll find them.

and a Nailhead makes enough torque to be quick off the line while still running a decent highway gear....

  10. R.C. is a HAMBer that sells Eelco gear, talk to him. I wonder if the issue LeadSledMerc told us has been sorted out?
I have Eelco valve, plug covers and valley pan and there super nice parts.
I think you should have 3 pedals though..........
    (Schaffer made a good flywheel)

It desn't matter who is selling the Eelco parts for him, they're still his design and build!

**** like that shouldn't have to be sorted out, the sortig out of major problems is suposed to happen before you go to market with your goods..that is ***uming you have a clue or giva a **** about your customers!
