I'm looking to put a mild/street cam in my 364 Buick Nailhead. I've poked around and heard that Thumper isn't the way to go and they Comp cams will tear up the insides of a Nailhead. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good solid cam? I'm not racing and only looking for some thump and a little extra hp.
I would give these guys a call:http://deltacam.com/ Good prices and they can duplicate most of the Vintage grinds talk to the Tech guys and they can hook you up with your needs.
"The 1956 factory Export solid lifter cam. 212 duration @ .050, valve lift .420 lift and 111 LSA .015 valve lash Late 401 factory cam and 66 425 207 duration @ .050, valve lift .431 and 114 LSA 1963-1965 425 factory cam 208 @.050 on the intake, 213 on the exhaust, about the same lift as the 401 but 109 LSA" Schneider Cams 262-70H TA Performance TA_112-401 Both Stock Nailhead Camshafts I certainly wouldn't go with a Thumpr. Comp has Nailhead blanks. I would go with something close to this, it's A Dual Energy DEH255. if you get a comp ask for the hardening. Close to the 425 dual quad cam. I would definitely go with a dual pattern. If you have someone grind it consider going up 1 stage on the exhaust because oh the exhaust ports.
