I purchased a Balchowsky 401/425 intake approximately 3 years ago on ebay, 3 deuce intake with heat passages. If I remember correctly, my purchase was around $600 and change with the 3 - 2CG's..... I was happy with the FIND as guys are paying more than that for an "Awfulhauser". I do like Offy.....

Some one earlier mentioned Russ, he was a friend of Max's I believe...

Russ is looking for abut $900-$1000 for each intake. If you check out his ebay store, there were buyit now prices right around there.

As far as collecting the intakes and other stuff. I started buying up the cool intakes 15 years ago when no one wanted 322 stuff. I paid the going rates or less. But then an Edmunds 2x4 which had never been bolted on an engine was less than $200. And damn near NO ONE wanted it. Hell I bought an AlGon unit for about $225 from a speed shop-no one was interested in it then...
I ended up with so much stuff that I bought three motors and two projects to put the 322's in. One will be a front engine dragster, the other is the begining of a Model A project.
The sweetest thing with the Nailhead intakes is that you can swap them in less than 5 minutes if you have the fuel lines and throttle linkage done right. I used to swap between a single 4 and dual 4s on the 401 regularly. You know, pull one off, and tweek stuff without putting the car down.

The prices are real, there may not be too many people that would pay that amount but there was one who did, and one who would have paid damn close to that.
The Edmunds intakes are cool, early but not really all that rare.
The main thing is that someone got a cool intake, and it didn't get scrapped. I am sure it will be put to good use.

I'm not saying the guys are stupid or anything, I'm just stunned at what that intake brought!

I'd love to have one of those Balchowsky intakes, and those in my mind are worth what he's asking--Max was a racer of some reputation, and those intakes are very rare. Way out of my price range for a conversation piece and bragging rights though.

Deals do pop up every now and then, so I always keep my eyes open for one even if I'm not going to use it right away, or ever. I picked up a complete factory 2x4 set-up with carbs, linkage, lines and chrome air cleaner for $600 last year. I was real happy with the price, and was glad I had the money for it. It sits very happily on a cart in my garage for now.

  5. I've spent "too much" for 348/409 stuff that was listed on eBay, but then again, I'm not too upset about it because they were parts I wanted and things that one rarely ever finds available for the W-engine. Who knows when the next time one will ever/never show up for sale?

I bought a pair of Edelbrock valve covers about 5 years ago, and was jumping up and down like a little kid because I practically stole them compared to what they were going for when and if a set ever showed up.

Had I invested the money, I could have had a little more in the bank and bought a brand new pair now for exactly the price I paid for the vintage set. D'oh!
