nailhead overheating issue

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lowgobuick56, Jan 13, 2010.

  1. i have a 322 nail head and it wont stop overheating. i have checked the timing and it seems to be fine. i even pulled the thermostat and it still overheats. i also put a big electric fan on and in the summer it still overheats. this is a newly machined motor. i have heard it could be a bubble but i dont really know how to go about dealing with that. anyone have any suggestions or ideas. thanks

I looked at your photos and it looks like yer runnin the flex hoses with the spring in um.. I have seen crap get hung up in the springs. with the cap off can you see flow? If not I have also seen impellers fall off waterpumps. Also I guess yer runnin the stock Guage? if so is it working? I guess it is spitting up watter not just reading high?

was the water jackets of the block cleared of ALL debrees and rust? There could be a vacuum leak, running lean. Is your bypass hose letting too much water in and its not allowing it to circulate through the radiator. hope this helps good luck!

  10. good tip on the flex hose. i also should check the water pump just to rule it out if nothing else. i am going off stock gage and it is spitting all over anyway but a new one couldnt hurt. thanks for the help the dude.
also the block was fully cleaned, water jackets incuded. i never thought about vacume leak and i have heard nailheads are great a vacume leaks. i will also check the bypass hose and running mixture
    thanks mengestwincustoms.

  11. If you used RTV or some type or sealant in place of a gasket in the water pump area, too much could have been applied allowing it to then break off inside and clog the radiator?
