Do you have a name for your car? Whats the story behind it? I dont have one (although its been called a few things when Im mad) but my wife's car is always referred to as the BOAT (Its a 60 Olds) - She wants to call it Motion Sickness when its completed....
My current reddish-brown 64 Olds ended up with the name "Flo". My old blue 64 Olds was named "Dyna" because one of the "Dynamic 88" emblems was broken and just read "Dyna"...so the name stuck. Some stoner bitch slammed into Dyna with her dadddy's Granada and totaled it back in 86. Flo came along this year. (If you put their names together, they're Dyna Flo...but that wasn't the intent!) Flo got her name cuz all the fluids just flow right out of her...always needs oil, trans fluid and coolant...not to mention GAS! Ha Ha...it either leaks 'em or burns 'em!! But I wouldn't change a thing...she's perfect!!
Both '60's drag cars I have were named. The Lyndwood rail is "Alley Oop" named after the popular song about the cartoon caveman. The other is "The U.S.Mule II" that I believe was another cartoon character in the Al Capp strip.
HEY! I gots me one of those... I hope this post does not turn into "only the olds guys name thier cars"...BUT my '67 Cutlass is named Ophelia. after the suicidal hooker in Hamlet. every time I leave her alone for more than a week, the bitch systematically self destructs.fortunately, there are very few bridges here in Austin...
I've been thinking I'm going to call the F-100 I'm working on "Backbreaker" because I had to have back surgery almost immediately following getting it home. Ben
My wife usually names my cars when she's mad. My sedan is "that f*#king car" and my ragtop is "that other f*#king car"
My Fairlane is named "The Fairlane". A name never presented itself. My '48 Willys truck is named the "Swamp Machine". It started out as the Swamp thing...then the Swamp Monster....I think I've settled on Swamp Machine.... Once its painted on then it will be permanent. Kinda self explanatory.
I call the green one the green one and the black one I call the black one. I figure why give them a name if they won't come when I call them.
My A sedan is "Mister Meanor" Named after a 32 sedan my dad and uncle bought together before they even had drivers liscences. Was a ex drag car, with Mister Meanor writen on the door. No motor in it when they bought it. Never got it on the road again, and sold it later on. Dad has a small b+w photo of it though, name kinda stuck with my sedan then.
Mine is generally referred to as "that old b*tch?". As much as I hate to think it, shes a little tempermental. After I do a burnout or romp on the pedal she ends up acting really weird when I reach the furthest point from my house...
My girl friend calls my truck "Fireball" because of the leaking gas tank located behind the bench seat she came with....the truck not the girl.
The only one of our cars that has a name is our '88 Ranger beater. We call it "The POS" 'cause, well, that's what it is.
For some reason wich I don't know, I have named everything i ever have owned Sinister Purpose. The guys in the club give me shit but they're just jealous they don't hve such a cool name. However, my daily ride, 61 chevy, is called the show car because it's the only thing that ever seems to make it to any shows, ironically it is a beater. Go figure..... Rick
My buddy named my '64 Ford "Ellwood" because he's a bare bones cheapie that a preacher or traveling salesman would've bought back then. He also named my '79 T-Bird "Bitch Blue", because she's painted a girly powder blue and I'm a bitch!... Jan
Names of cars we have now.. 50 Merc called Pandora cuz the deeper I got into that rotbox, the more evil I found, 62 Merc called "Lady Luck"...1st day I had her out, Friday 13th...brakes went to the floor, got her home on ebrake and downshifting...61 Ford "Sweetie" cuz when she didnt want to start, just said "Come on Sweetie" and invariably...vavoom.....65 Olds is "I know, I know, Im gonna sell it soon", 57 Buick is "Nailhead Sled", and 56 Lincoln is "Lo-sLincoln"
After considerable research and evaluation, I hit upon "the Ford" for my '40 Tudor Sedan. It offers the benefits of accuracy and ease of recollection--no small consideration for an O.F. like me
