Nameing a show car...Traditional or just kind of silly

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by roadstar, Jan 11, 2004.

  1. I know cars have been given names by there owners for many years. And some of the most famous show car ever built have names like Ala Cart, Beatnik Bandit, Revolver. Grand Master ect.
so I have been kicking around naming my latest car that I will be showing this year in the Detroit Autorama.
I have had more than a few cars and have never named one. I always thought it was silly.
But this car is real nice and I thought it would be cool to have a 'Show" name for it to put on the sighn, jsut for ****s and giggles.
So what I need is input on what to name this car and some abuse about actually wanting to name a car [IMG]

Hear is the car tell me what it looks like to you as far as names go.

I've named most of my project cars...

(actually calling them LOTS of names durring late night wrenching sessions! [IMG])

I think it's kinda cool...it's part of what I miss about drag racing...it was cooler when the funny cars had names like Chi-Town Hustler instead of just corporate sponsors!

As for show cars...they almost NEED names! That helps to give them an iden***y...make a reference to the Red Baron, or Crazy Horse, or The Orange Crate and people know right away what car you're talking about...SO much easier and cooler than saying "that car that looks like a helmet with guns", or "that gleaming gold plated yellow Hemi powered Altered" or "the 32 with the flip-up body"....knowwhutImean???

    On naming your 40???

    Sir Kruise
    The Dark Stranger
    Steel Tux
    After Hours
    Knight Shift

...just a few off the top of my head...feel free to nab one if ya like it!

Hack, why do these names sound like marital aids? [IMG]

(Actually "Steel Tux" is also a pretty good name for this ride).

  10. Mine usually don't get a real name until we've had time to get to know each other.
We were gonna call the Galaxie the junk yard dawg (for obvious reasons). But that didn't stick, what did stick was just my luck (for more obvious reasons) [IMG]
Lifes a ****s Shoot . Probably has nuthin' to do with the car but its true, and I never saw one with that name before.[IMG]

boy, believe it or not i think Donzie NAILED it. REALLY!! and i don't see anything wrong with namin a car. i've met people i like alot less than some cars and they have names [IMG]. Jimmy (as in Smith or "JEEM") named my model A, "FnA". he just started refering to it as that and it stuck. it's painted on the shift knob now so i can't change it [IMG]. (i'll show you the knob when i get it in the mail. it is KEWL!!!)....

Your '40 has one very unusual feature -- the windshield, its divider post and trim appear to be from a woodie or convertible, rather than the typical coupe/sedan windshield as shown on the Standard a couple of posts below your first one. I'm surprised at this very subtle change on an otherwise stock-bodied car (neat, though).

I'd be tempted to name it "Henry".

Love that lettering!Whoever did the work is GOOD!Oh yeah! A name:If you wanted to go a little modern you could call it,"Rued Star" or maybe,"Setz Rite" or if you gave it to your son it could be called,"Race'Ride" or"Race' Riot"or you could paint some licks on it and call it,"Flambeau-Yant"........or you could just leave it alone 'cause it's nice just the way it is.JMHO

  24. Quick disclaimer here...I'm changing the stupid billet pedals and I have a super cool shift knob to go on and the stearing wheel is only temporary while I get the banjo wheel done in copper.

Rudy, I would be interested in the steering wheel. Does it fit a Chevy column?

  26. Sorry Donzi, that stearing wheel is a orig**** 69 camaro rosewood wheel in perfect shape. I jsut used it to move the car. It's worth sick money so It's going back into the vault.
Buti might have grant wheel or something like that if you need something

Beautiful car Rudy -- funny, the only things that jumped out were those pedals and the wheel, and you dealt with those in your next post. I agree car names are kind of a personal thing, the best ones wouldn't work on a show sign without a paragraph explaining where they came from. I just got back from the "Oakland" roadster show (whose name also needs a lengthy explination) and all the names on show signs were pretty lame. Coming up with a good one is gonna be a challenge... oh yeah -- tell us about that windshield. It's got a *****en' peak... was it an open car/wagon windshield? Somehow I get the idea you did it from scratch. Fill us in...
