I am building a '57 Ford business coupe. I have the housing for the narrow 9, (stock), now, I need opinions for what the best option for me is, as far as gears. I am not drag racing. I am going to run a 292 YBlock with 312 heads. 4bbl carb not sure what, and a c6 trans. This will be a daily driver and grocery getter for the wife, but I want to smoke BOTH tires off the line when the wife and kiddies are home and I'm trying to look cool. So far I think the 370 with posi is what I have heard to run. A top speed of 120 would be sufficient so, whatever I have to do with that running gear to accomplish that...???

  2. I think 3.25 gears would be plenty low with the auto trans.

I have the 3.70 gears with a trac lock in my '59 9" in the coupe.

    I'm ok with it [IMG]

I'm running 3.25s in my 57 sedan. 292, 4bbl and cruise-o-matic. Really good highway gears and great around town. Just my two cents worth.

How are you going to run a C-6 behind a Y-block???
Is there an adapter out there?.....Just wondering, I have a FE 390 and C-6 with 3:00 geared 9 inch and I get 16 mpg and plenty of top end speed....

3.50 to 3.70 gears will do the trick.

Thanks for all the 2 cents. I totally appreciate it. The c-6 will go with a edelbrock adapter kit, from what I understand. Vondanno informed me of that trick.
