been cleaning up and going through some parts i had laying around lately and came across the old 4 speed 64 toploader a friend gave me ! w no bellhousing i never figured i'd do anything with it anyways since they came behind early 5 bolt small block fords ! i noticed it looks to share the same bolt pattern as a y block truck bellhousing i have , will this work behind a y block w the truck bellhousing ?

I would think it might fit, never tried that myself.

I'm guessing by narrow pattern you mean it only has one set of mounting holes? These also were available in Galaxies in 64 as they phased out the T-10. It will have a fairly long tail shaft if so (as compared to a Mustang toploader). The Fairlane for 64 also has this ****** if equipped with a 4-spd. Hard to tell it from a Galaxie but the Fairlane trans is about and 1" or so shorter, as is the main shaft as well. It also has a wide-ratio 1st gear so it is much easier to take off from a stop. I have a 64 Fairlane toploader in a 64 Galaxie, and a later dual bolt pattern toploader in another 64 Galaxie.
A few other differences between the F'laine & Galaxie toploaders but not worth mentioning at this point.

If its a 3 speed bellhousing its too deep. I don't know Y blocks but thats how it is with FE's and a toplaoder should be the same regardless of year. The later ones have both bolt patterns.
