I was coming through Nashville TN on my way home Sunday and stopped at the Pull-A-Part yard to check out a couple OT vans to see if there were any parts I could use on mine. While there I strolled back to the old car section and ran across a couple engines you Hambers may be interested in. First was a 1961 Buick Electra (tagged by yard as a 1962) with the nailhead engine still in it, complete carb to oilpan. If its the original engine it should be a 401. No idea if its any good or not but it maybe worth checking out. Second car was a 1962 Chrysler that still had the 413 in it. The valve train and carb was gone but the rest of the engine is there along with the Torqueflite transmission. Again I have no idea if it is any good but it maybe worth looking at. I am not interested but I hate to see these engines go to waste. Just passing along info to help out my fellow Hambers.
Any pics by chance? Know what model the Chrysler was? I'm kinda far away to go and check them out, but I could use some trim stuff off of that '62 Chrysler.
Sorry I did not take photos as I was only interested in parts for my van and only went back to the old car section as an afterthought. As best I remember the '62 Chrysler was a New Yorker 4dr sedan. I did not pay attention as to shiny stuff left on the car, only noted the 413 engine still in it. As I think about looking in the old car section while there, it seems like there were several old Chevy pickups back there. The online list shows the oldest to be 1962. I know I saw several 60's Chevy pickups in that section. Of course they were junk and the shiny parts are mostly gone but there may still be some usable hard parts left on some of them that a Hamber could use. Pull-A-Part is a regular late model junkyard but all of their locations do have an old car section. Usually the older cars there are stripped out hulks that do not stay around long. However the Nashville yard had decent older cars there. Sometimes the cars online are marked wrong. There was a 1970 Impala 4dr that was tagged as a 1966. Also the '69 Mustang listed there is a coupe with nothing left but the body shell.
