My Wife and I are moving to Nashville, Tennesse in January. How is the rod scene there? Cruise ins, swap meets etc...? Anyone in Nashville selling a BIG shop with a small house? I spent a few weekends when the Wife was there in June. We had a great time and loved the town. Like to meet some folks there that are into cars, maybe get the "low down" on some of the rod related events. Jim
As far as a place, be sure to check the outskirts. I'm west of Nashville so I'd recommend looking around Greenbriar, Pleasant View, Joelton and Ashland City. All are within 15 minutes of downtown and the rural areas will merit better shops usually. East of Nashville usually costs more $$$.
And the closer you get to town the wilder it gets. I'm with him, West of the city is better, and the way the roads are set its not too far from the hub of the city.
I'm president of one car club and a member of another. Here are two sites of interest http://nashvillecarshows.tripod.com/ http://www.sumnercounty-aaca.com/ There are cruise-ins every Friday and Saturday night in Middle Tn. from April thru October. Let me know when you get settled in. We will hook you up.
Here's another group from the Nashville area. I've cruised with them several times, always a lot of fun. http://midnightrodders.tripod.com/
Lots of hot rods, no real "scene" in the immediate area though. There are several crusie ins that are OK, seems like a lot of them end up being taken over by SSR's, PT Cruisers and new Camaros and Mustangs. A couple of good swap meets but with the fairgrounds closing this spring who knows what will happen with those? The good news? We do have a Goodguys show in the summer, Bowling Green and Beech Bend dragstrip is about 45 minutes north, NHRA nostalgia drags returned there last year and Goodguys had their second show there this year, Atlanta, Lousiville and Indy are only about 4 hours away, so major racing, NSRA and other sporting events are near enough. Fellow Poorboy Mike (Earl Scheib) hosts an indoor car show/swap meet in Febraury. The redneck rumble in lebanon is a pre-64 shows that's really grown in the last few years as well. Also as mentioned in another similar thread this week, East Tennessee has some sort of hot rod show almost every week, it's about 3 hours from Nashville. Bristol speedway is also in that area. And as Cyclone said your bargains are obviously in the outlying areas. I'm in a small town North of Nashville but only minutes away the big city. He also mentioned East Nashville being $$$ - it is because it's trendy but 'urban', a friend owns a mega-buck house there and has crackheads renting the house behind him. Shoot me a PM as well if you want, be happy to answer any questions I can.
mount juliet's a nice town bout 20mins from nashville. good saturday night cruise-inn. guy up the road from me is sellin a house, 3 bedroom with a 750sq ft shop behind it.... place is about 4-5 years old... actually a copy of my house and shop.... hes in a bind, prolly get it cheap
Thanks Guys, great information there. I still have to build a friend's son a cool FED styled stroller, swap the engine in "The Beater", and sell my current house. The move and relocation are paid by my Wife's employer and they will buy the house if it doesn't sell within 30 days. A new place with a bigger shop is just around the corner. Looking forward to meeting some of the local car guys in Nashville. Thank you all. Jim
