After reading your thread i wish i had bought one of ur t- shirts now! I talked to u a little fri night at the parking lot when your cars were still on the trailer! Remember reading article in gasser mag about car show in cal i believe whencurrent owner of orange crush car had u sit in it - awsome stuff. Enjoyed meeting u and also meeting don moyer. Fun weekend. Swell feeling when don came up to me in line and told me my car was running strong. Hope to see u again.

  6. My car weighs 2,620 pounds. I met so many nice people from all over, I just can't remember all of the names. Don is one of my H.A.M.B. heroes and I'm sure glad I got to line up with him, I will never beat a ten second car to the finish line but it made a great photo op. I am glad he made it to the drags so that we got to meet.
I will get my road trip pics up this evening.

    Kev,
Those are some pucker factor launches. Looks like a blast! It'll be interesting to see what times she turns once your high R isues are ironed out. Glad to see you made it to the event. When I was at your place a few weeks ago, you had a laundry list of stuff to do (front brakes, etc.). Nice work!

Very cool Kev. Best wheelie picture of a Willys I've ever seen!

  15. Here are shots from the road trip, we saw a lot of cool stuff! There were 6 of us in Squeak's Ford Dualie. Sueak, me, Craig, Mal, and Murray, all on vacation from New Zealand and Phil , a Kiwi who lives in Bakersfield. I didn't take pictures of everything, Murray did though. It was a great group of guys to travel with, goofy bastards, a laugh a minute. We travelled mostly Interstates 40 and 44 which is basically the old route 66. So we would get on 66 sometimes and check out the old part of town, so much to see, it was great!
I will let the pictures do most of the talking.

Day one, Bakersfield, CA to Winslow, AZ.

    First stop was Kramer Junction....

Between Needles and Barstow we came upon a very nasty wreck that had just happened, on the highway was a big chunk of truck tire retread and some wild skid marks, in the low area beside the road was a totaled SUV that had left the road and looked like it had rolled several times and was on it's wheels. The SUV must have been right beside the truck when the tire blew and either swerved or was pushed off the road. We stopped and jumped out to see if we could help, Squeak grabbed his fire extinguisher because there was alot of smoke coming from the engine bay of the SUV. As we aproached the scene there we could see the driver (big guy) was trapped in the car and a couple of people were trying to get him free, there was also a girl who had been thrown from the SUV lying limp in the rocks. There was a car with family members that must have been traveling with the SUV stopped on the side of the hiway, a lady was freaking out. Squeak went down to help and I went to wave down the traffic that was approaching the scene. I looked back and now there were flames coming from the engine bay, Sueak emptied his extinguisher in there, the guy was was still trapped. I got a real bad feeling in my stomach. I was yelling at the truckers as they rolled past to get more fire extinguishers on the scene. Next time I looked they had ripped the passenger door off an dragged the guy out the passenger side, not a minute too soon as the front of the SUV was now a fireball with a lot of black smoke rising. The girl was picked up with a blanket and moved to a safer location. She was alive but had major head cuts, broken arm, chunk of skin missing from knee and who knows what else. I think Squeak gave them the time they needed to get the guy out saved his life because there was no time to spare. This was happening in the middle of the desert, nothing for about an hour in either direction. A cop car arrived surprisingly quickly and when we left the SUV was a complete fireball with a lot of little explosions. So that was an exiting start to the trip.

We met up with Dale, AKA Curbspeed, at Albuquerque. He was towing a 40 Ford panel to the Springfield MO swap meet. I rode with him to Amarillo.

We just missed this thunder storm...

  18. Day 4...Springfield to Joplin.

We hooked up with our cars again in Springfield, it was good to see them again, we also hooked up with Marky who flew in to Joplin.

Morning of the swap meet we were all ready to go but no sign of Marky, oh there he is in the Waffle House enjoying a hearty breakfast

The day we spent at the Springfield swap meet. It was a great swap meet. More relaxed and better prices than California. Man, was it hot! I don't think I would ever get used to that stuffy heat. Guess I will be staying in California. The cold mugs of root beer sure are good! We saw a ground hog running in the grass next to the freeway while we were waiting in the parking lot, we didn't know what the hell it was until the parking attendant told us.. Everybody found something at the swap meet so the truck bed was pretty full for the rest of the trip. we headed for the Holiday Inn parking lot for the evening. H.A.M.B. drags headquarters.

    Kev,
You epitomize the HAMB to me. All newbies should be required to read your build threads before being allowed to speak. :D

Sounds like your problem is fuel slosh. Could be as easy as adding jet extensions to the carbs.

  22. Saturday morning we headed over to Ryno's place for donuts and to check out his shop, I was impressed by both. One thing I learned that day was that Ryno is a good man!

Kev, did you know that the car would be wheelie prone from the git go or was that a surprise when you got to Joplin?

  26. Awesome stuff!!! Job well done by all of you guys. I spot that evil eyed fella mr. Stare.

  27. Kev, it was great to finally meet you in person. You car is better in real life instead of a computer screen and made the long trip worth it! You sell yourself short, that car, when all sorted out, is gonna run! Look what it did with those old slicks! I really enjoyed lining up with ya, and hope to again some time. I think we got the bug in ya!

  28. Your really gonna like my next car!

Haha, good reply Don! Looks like you guys had a real blast. Thanks for all the pics. Kev, did you come home with any new signs? I see lots of 'em in your pics.

  30. One Finger John.....This was the first time I had taken this car to a strip, it has never been on the freeway either so I was interested to see what would happen. I can't remember the last time I drove a car down a drag strip. Well over ten years ago. Anyway, I figured it should pull a wheelie because it was very similar to my old car and it did. It is not a horsepower thing, just weight transfer and gearing. With the engine setback, long traction bars, light weight, ballast bumper, 4.56 gears etc it better have a good launch. It only has 9" slicks so if I had a lot of horsepower it would lose traction pretty quick. It is as light as I could make it up front. Fiberglass panels, magnesium wheels, aluminum water pump and radiator. I was a little worried about breaking something and I'm sure it will sooner or later. When the engine runs better I plan on side stepping the clutch at about 7 grand, I figure the T10 trans or 29 spline axles are the weak links. I was told it has a front end shimmy when it lands, I couldn't feel that inside the car so I will track down a king pin kit and tie rod ends. I was worried about bending the original Don Long axle. It had a slight bend when I got it and I pressed it straight. It shouldn't bend unless it bottoms out on something and maybe that's what happened to it in it's former life.

Don Moyer....Your 33 is wicked looking! Will it look just like that when you get done with it?

327-365hp....Only got one sign on the trip, this one I picked up at the Springfield swap meet...
