it was a real cool show. i was completely "walked out" by the end though. hooked up with a TON of friends throughout the day. i rode down in my buddy Dan's badass "Michigan brown" 40 Ford P-up that we parked in the swap meet (the truck was NOT for sale). there were lots of neat vehicles to see in the show and in the swap. this little coupe was in the swap area and appears to be a real survivor from right here in Michigan. i'd be AWEFUL tempted to fix it up to road worthyness and drive the piss out of it if it was mine...

take a closer look at the pic of the deck lid and you will see ;)

  5. Was Poncho Rendon there ? I just thought something like this might be his. I heard he has cancer and is getting pretty bad. I just met him for the first time last year after buying some parts and didn't recognize him, I finally figured it out when Dick Lahaie came over and was sitting with him. He said they were just bought back their 1977 AAFD and were restoring it. Best wishes to him & his family.

So that car wasn't for sale ?

That car may have been built to run the Grand Rapids speeddrome.Sure looks like it was never raced. There is a guy named Caleb Bisacky that races at Berlin, wonder if he is realtion?Am I right in thinking those are Kinmont brakes on the front?Definitely alot of wow factor there.

Did anybody see the "T" bodied track roadster? It was running a 12 port Jimmy. Was there on Sat. The 32 was unbelievably cool. Would have loved to here it or the "T" run. Ya just don't see stuff like that in Michigan!

Joes auto parts Its just up the road from me well 15 miles been there many times. That car is very cool.

I know this guy that lives here in town and he has a ton of old racing cars and parts and memrobilia two full barns of it. Hes has two or three midgets two rear engin dragsters a funny car two old stock cars and four old Indy cars. All from the 50s,and 60s. Like four nail heads all some have 2 x 6 intakes fuel injection intakes he has some blown 392 hemis like ten quick chainge rear ends all the walls are coverd with old speed parts.

I stop by there like once a year and look at the stuff and talk to him about it. He is very nice and likes to talk about it and the history of all the cars.

I was thinking of going over there and tell him about the HAMB he would be a good addition to the HAMB.

The cool '32 3w oval tracker has been there for the last three years collecting drool. The first year you should have heard the offers being tossed around. Definitly WAY more than it's worth even considering the rarity. The guy just REALLY enjoys trolling and its a good calling card to get people to look at his other overpriced stuff. BTW the brakes aren't Kinnmont but I can't remember the name of them. they are quite rare though but you;d have to make any pieces that needed to be replaced as there are no replacements available. One of the old timers that was present at the first showing knew about the brakes and said except for the conversation factor they weren't worth having.

No Poncho was not there. He is not doing well at all. A very sad day for Metro Detroit hot rodders, and everyone else who knew and loved him very much, is coming soon. He one of Roadstars very close buddies. He raised his nephew, (a HAMB member) singlehandedly. Rudy really needs to share Poncho racing histroy with the HAMB. Perhap I can convice him to do a post here soon. In the mean time if everyone could please say a prayer for Poncho's remaining days on this earth to be painfree and filled with happy thoughts and memories of his family and friends.

Fab32, can I assume since you left those cool ass value covers in the back of Big Olds, that they are a gift?? :D

It was GREAT seeing everyone this weekend. Saturday and Sunday we could NOT have asked for nicer weather.

Bisackys old cpe is not a surviver in the sense of what you see. I was talking to the owner this week-end and he told me that the only part thats original is the top and a quarter panel. Gary Bisacky (Joes son) had those parts stashed out in the swampy area of the junkyard hidden behind a bunch of stuff. The rest plus the lettering is recent and done by the present owner. And yes he brings it not to sell but to yank everybodies chain. Which of course he does real well.

  13. Bad deal :( . I had a good time talking to him. Shirley Muldowney got her first break (and license) in his car. He laughed and said ....."I'd be a millionaire if it wasn't for those race cars....LOL".;)

    That fact is true.
THANK you so much for sharing that newspaper clipping. It's a fun picture of him and from a time when I didn't know him, so I really enjoyed seeing what he looked like way back then. I'm sure Rudy will get a kick out of it too.

Well bud, you know what they say about ownership.......:p

This car ruled, everything was stock appearing and the stance made it look bad ass.

This car looked like a survivor w/New York Plates. Checked out the registraion sticker, and it's Dick Spadaro's, too cool.

Hey Mike That very cool 3 winder was put togather over the last few years by a fella starting with only a few rusty panels from the back of the yard named on the car. The builder did an awesome job on the patina on the body with all the metal work that was needed. A couple years ago I bought left over rear fenders parts from the man. My buddy fixed him up with a rough door bottom.

My friend tried to buy the body shell with no doors out of the yard for years but it was never for sale. My friend tells me the current owner and builder did all the lettering on their race cars and talked the yard into letting him have the pieces to build the car this way. Really cool hot rod. WOW!! I just got back to this thread, and a lot of posting since I added my two cents. For everyones information Denise kept me talking all the way back to my car where she dropped me off. Now I know why, she wanted me to forget the valve covers. Denise, I know they won't fit big Olds so I assume you're fixing to sell them to help finance your big trip. Well here's the deal. Phat rat and I made a deal about the covers. He gave me a special price and we agreed if I got rid of them I'd share the profits if there were any. Just mail anything over $300 to him and give me what you have left over after you return from California.

Thanks for the Pictures Kustom, looks like a really great time. It's too bad it falls on that weekend every year. I have other commitments (son's birthday) that weekend. Maybe one year we can get over there and check it out. looks like a good time.

The show was rally nice this year. The highlights for me included riding in Big Olds (twice! thanks Denise!) and getting to meet some more HAMB'ers and putting some more names to faces. The swap is always fun to walk around too.
I have some pics i will try to post tonight, its funny Mike we took quite a few pictures of the same cars, from really similar angles. Bummer i didnt get to talk to you, once again...

Neat show... but not enough of the cars I like. Lots of cars there with major design flaws...

*EDIT whoops, didnt want to cause a ruckus...*

  28. Hey Mike, Didja say Hi to George (PurplePickup on the RRT) after you took his picture?

I used to work in a print shop and we were out at a happy hour with our presswoman for "Wes' Texas", as you can probably guess, she didn't give or take any bullshit, when a Joe Dirt kinda character she knew came up to her really proud of his new ink... He pulled up his sleeve as everybody got close to see.

The rest of us stifled our laughter, as he showed us the nice rendition of a skull with wings. Wes' Texas didn't hold back her laughter when she read, out loud, what was written underneath it..."Death Angle!"

I noticed it had a Hexagon Tool 2x2 intake... the one for Miller FWD Indy cars with the carbs mounted backwards! I doubt if it would have worked any good on the track.

If those aren't Kinmonts they are the Wilson Welding copies. They look exactly like Kinmonts.

The rest of that car is spot-on too.
