Yes,and they were always titled as a "Rambler". Which is what was on the NY registration that came with mine.

Not always... the model is Rambler and the make is either Nash or American Motors. Mine said American Motors. Get over it already.

  4. I tried to register a '71 Pinto with an SC title at the Harrisburg Tag Office. I know the people there very well, I graduated Hi School with the owner's daughter and worked at a gas station for her dad in High School in the late '60s. The law had just changed, ( think this was last January) and to get a title I had to go to the Highway Patrol Station in Charlotte. The officer there said I had to bring the car there and have them inspect it AND I had to buy a tag for it. All I wanted was a title in my name at that time.

I guess there are easier places to go in NC to get this done, I just sold the car to someone in SC. I really wanted to put a 2.3 EFI turbocharged engine in it but I gave up.

Right after the law changed was the hardest time to get it done right. Everything was new and some had no idea what they were supposed to do or not do. It has mellowed out a lot since then. Now the new inspection before registration for late models has gotten everyone huffy. They give you a 3 day permit to drive the vehicle to get it inspected and then registered. Just did a '79 GMC under that, of course my three days included 6" of snow and a weekend, kind of made it difficult as no one was open.

Its easy!. I got the title in my name took 2 months from the time it was in my yard till i got the title in the mail. 1 hour at the Durham DMV office with Bill of sale, Registration card, Signed and notorized statement from the raalestate person to remove the vehicle from the forclosed property, and reciepts for towing and storage. I also had a friend who is a Homicide detective veryify the VIN and that it was not reported stolen before I went to DMV. Once I had the title I got the truck running and sold it.

Whats so hard to understand about that?

So someone in NY didn't know their ass from a hole in the ground, and now this is gospel. The model is Rambler, period. If you can't understand that I can see why you have such a hard time, and well deserved I might add.

I have a hard time understanding why the DMV inspector didn't come by himself to check the VIN and take photos, when they do this with every antique car I have bought in the last 3 years.

And I'm friends with the local sheriff, and that doesn't seem to make any difference.

I see. I deserve a hard time because the HAMB clique doesn't agree with me,and think THEIR experiences are the only ones that are valid.

    You can kiss my ass,too.

It has nothing to do with HAMB clique. It seems that you think your shit dont stink. Rambler is the model of the car not the manufacturer. People can get legal titles in under 2 months if you do it right. It dont matter where you live but maybe you tossed up a red flag because of something you did and now you are on the "watch list". Truth hurts so admit your doing something wrong, get over it and unless you have positive and helpfull information to pass along to help out HAMBers in NC stop posting your crybaby shit.

I just went down to the NCDMV yesterday to get the title for my 50 ford truck transferred to my name using the clear SC title that i bought it with. The DMV told me they would process my paperwork and send it to Raleigh to apply for a NC title but that an inspector had to come out and look at the truck before they would send me the title. She also said the truck had to be in running condition, but was kind of vague on her definition of "running condition". My question for anybody in NC that has experience with this is- Does the vehicle have to be roadworthy? Or does the inspector just have to come out and verify the VIN tag?

I WAS posting helpful information and then you and one other HAMBER jumped on me like I was lying. I posted my experiences and my recommendations. You don't like it,go fuck yourself.

BTW,a Chevrolet is a model of a car made by GM. Does your title say your car is a GM,or does it say it is a Chevrolet?

If it says 20xx General Motors, how much luck do you think you will have selling it?

First off, your "I hate NC" rant over and over was idiotic. Get the fuck out already. Second you really offered nothing more than a shit storm about something you were and are wrong about. You seem to have some kind of problem with make and model. Which is pretty standard pretty much anywhere. To say Chevrolet is a model is nothing short if moronic. You've dug yourself a big hole. You're gonna have a hard time filling.

And it's your attitude, no one jumped on you, if you took it that way, well then I can see why you have the problems with them that you have.

You and your junior high school attitude can go fuck yourself, too.

I do hate NC and have no intention of hiding or denying it. Deal with it or ignore me. Your choice.

It's obvious you are still hot over the last time we crossed swords a couple of years ago. Grow up.

oh, you mean about when you were being ignorant about where someone is from. Yeah you're still the same ignorant fool. Keep digging man, you're hell with that shovel. As for attitude, sorry man you got the market cornered.

LOL! Thanks for admitting that is the basis for your bitching. It explains why you just jumped right in and started being a pissy little bitch this time when nothing had been said to you.

I honestly don't remember what it was about. All I remember is your screen name and that you got your panties all in a wad over something.

But uh, I have the book in front of me here... the company may have been AMC in 1954, but they sold NASH and HUDSON until 1957, RAMBLER from 1958-1965, and THEN sold cars badged AMC. NC is wrong -

Arthur, I understand your frustration, brother, I really do. But if you go back and read this whole discussion with an objective eye, you seem to fly off the handle and get your panties in a bunch. If you are like that when dealing with the morons at the DMV, I can see why you don't get anywhere. As stupid as they are, they still have the power to help or hurt you, and they know this. I go in and bullshit around with them and usually get a lot of help.

Case in point....I had my tag-HOT4TCHR on a toyota that became a project off of the road for a while and hd to turn it in. When I got my 51, I wanted the tag back. After b.s.ing with the girl a bit, she looked it up and said it was registered to a Saturn, but wait....it hadn't been paid up and would be available in a few weeks. During that time, I had to go up there for some of my other cars, talked to her and she would check to see if it had been paid.....nope. Time for it to be available....she wasn't there and the other girl didn't give a shit....no, its not available. She wouldn't check and couldn't be bothered. Came back the next day and saw my regular girl....Walked out with the tag in the mail. Made shure to say THANK YOU every time I left. I could have given the other girl shit, but it wouldn't have helped. Yes, NC is one hell of a frustrating place to deal with the DMV, but check yourself before you screw your chances of someone giving a little more and wanting to help you.

NOW, not everyone else has had the horrors you have had, but that gives no reson to call names. No one has been attacking you, just not agreeing with you, which happens in grownup world. Maybe you should put on a happy face next time you are in line at the DMV, be polite even when dealing with carreer idiots, and see where it gets you.

    Good luck.

you can thank the former head of the DMV for all your adventures. he got busted inappropriately assigning a title to a friend and created an overhaul of the system a couple of years back. the result was a giant pain for most old car folks and the new, untested, requisit inspection for title. ain't it fun!

Arthur, for the record, my truck came from Georgia. It was built in GA and spent it's entire life there, until I traded for it and brought it to NC. It never had a title as GA is a non title state for older vehicles. I did not have to get a bonded title. I just took the bill of sale to me, the previous bill of sale, and some money to the DMV and walked out with registration and tags to drive it legally. Then I made an appointment with the Inspector and he took a pencil rubbing and a photo of my VIN and I should have a tag in two weeks (one week now). It really was that easy. All with a truck that has NEVER been titled since it was new in '55.

Just to clear things up. I had my friend run the VIN numbers to assure myself of what I was doing and had no impact on the DMV. It may however have something to do with the fact that no inspector has ever come to my house. If they can somehow see that the VIN was run by a cop then maybe they just say WTH had pass it by, I do not know. All I know is what has happened to me in the past 2 years since the new laws were passed. I never implied that you did something illegal I just said that maybe you did something to put a flag by your name. That might be buying and selling a lot of cars without a dealer license or anything where the DMV says they need to keep you on the radar. If your stuff is legal and legit then going through alittle waiting period should be acceptable. I waited a while in 2002 on my 55 but it was worth it in the end.

Yep, and that joker brings that damn thing to some of the cruise in's around here. He's even proud of the crap he started.

And really call the License and Theft offices and not just the DMV offices.

What can I say, other than you are a lucky, lucky man and "good for you!"?

I agree that the registration and tags are no problem. Getting a title is where you are lucky. As I wrote in another post on this thread,my friend had to post a bond and wait three years to get a title to a 62 Dodge pu that has never been modified or even out of his family. His grandfather bought it new,and he bought it from his father.

In THIS area the DMV inspector comes by and not only physically checks all the numbers, but takes photos of them and the car. He has told me this is now required by his bosses in the DMV theft division, and I have no reason to not believe him.

I have no explanation for why people in this area have to post a bond and wait 3 years to get a title while you and others in your area don't have to go through this. I just know what I and everyone else in my area that fool with old cars has to go through.

Ok,does anybody have a phone number for the DMV in Raleigh that bypasses the clueless fool or fools I called before and takes me directly to the division I have to deal with? I want to sell that truck and can't sell it until I get a title.
