Folks Of Interest NDRA, what actually happened to them?

G***ers on GAS???!! What a concept!!

 

The whole concept becomes more difficult when you have to explain what drag racing was and that all cl***es were heads-up until cl*** winners moved on to the eliminator (money) rounds.

I remember guys were bring out old g***ers and claiming how much easier alcohol was on parts. It wasn't long before another racer responded, "Until you run it like it should be."

 

Are there any tracks that run the vintage Drag cars here in the U.S.,like on a special occasion
so us old timers can see the old cars run again?
I'm willing to travel just to see them run once again.
Everything changed once they closed Fremont.Just wondering,as I miss the good ole days.

 

There are a couple of good races where nostalgia cars run.

The first one is the Southeast G***ers that is ran by @Quain Stott. Mr. Stott gets it and you will enjoy his events.

@Ryan puts on an event once a year called the HAMB drags in August at MoKan Dragway in Asbury, MO. Lots of good cars come out for that as well.

The Meltdown drags is also a good one, but they are hosting their last event in 2022. Good cars there also.

You have Eagle Field, near Fresno, they run 1/8 mile a couple times a year, have great vintage cars running. We have Riverdale Raceway, fifty miles north of Portland, same great show. I miss Fremont, as I ran there in 86-7-and 8.

 

As I mentioned previously I ran the Milan NDRA races. One of my (in)famous memories was when I took my '33 Willys out to test-n-tune the Wednesday before the race. A gentleman approached me and started asking questions about my car. About the same time the announcer called my cl*** to the lanes, so I said, "Nice to meet ya, gotta go..." He introduced himself as Brian Brennan of Street Rodder Magazine.
I never got a chance to hook up with him and tell him about my coupe.

 

My NDRA brush with greatness was when a nice guy with a blown Willys was pitting next to us at Memphis. His name was KS Pittman.

 

Milan continues to hold nostalgia races three times a year:
The Detroit Dragway Reunion in June
Kickin' It Ol' Skool Drags in July
The Milan Nostalgia Drags in September

I run a couple of my old cars - The Last Logghe Altered, and my RPU. They have a Nostalgia Comp cl*** that I find challenging - Pro tree/ half second indices (The purse in N/D is 100% payback of our entry fees.)

There's plenty of nostalgia racing all over, including Canada, our area has 2 different groups that alternate there schedules so you could race practically every weekend, Ohio has Thompson race way with several events, G***er Madness has Dragway 42, ScottRods has a great group that travel and run at NHRA national events, Oddys group has 4 second cars, Southern Outlaw G***ers put on a great show too, just tons of nostalgia groups out there.

 

Up here in the Vancouver area we have Mission Raceways hasnostalgia drags every year put on by the Torchmen CC (or is it the Langley Loafers?). Always fun but not the same as the old strip...
